WebResource.axd provides access to embedded resources within a project. It&#39;s a handler that enables control and page developers to download resources that are embedded in an assembly to the end user.

You include WebResources in your AssemblyInfo:

    [assembly: System.Web.UI.WebResource(&quot;Project.Styles.Main.css&quot;, &quot;text/css&quot;)]

Then you can get an include path for your Page using the following code:

    string includeLocation = Page.ClientScript.GetWebResourceUrl(this.GetType(),    
        &quot;Project.Styles.Main.css&quot;);

Then to add the above file (which is a CSS file in this case):

    LiteralControl include = new LiteralControl(
        String.Format(includeTemplate, includeLocation));

Then you&#39;ll end up seeing references within your page source such as the following:

It&#39;s a generated HttpHandler file. Most likely you have some embedded resource in your ASP.NET application, or one of the third party components you use. To transport these in a transparent way ASP.NET makes use of this approach where the correct resource can be identified depending on the passed in querystring. For example:

I have a python datetime object (representing five minutes from now) which I would like to convert to UTC. I am planning to output it in RFC 2822 format to put in an HTTP header, but I am not sure if that matters for this question. I found some information on this site about converting time objects, and it looks simpler that way, but this time I really want to use datetime objects, because I am using timedeltas to adjust them:

I tried something like this:

    from datetime import datetime, timedelta

    now = datetime.now()
    fiveMinutesLater = datetime.now() + timedelta(minutes=5)
    fiveMinutesLaterUtc = ???

Nothing in the time or datetime module looks like it would help me. It seems like I may be able to do it by passing the datetime object through 3 or 4 functions, but I am wondering if there is a simpler way.

I would prefer not to use third-party modules, but I may if it is the only reasonable choice.

I have a list of Person objects. I want to convert to a Dictionary where the key is the first and last name (concatenated) and the value is the Person object.

The issue is that I have some duplicated people, so this blows up if I use this code:

I&#39;m new to .NET C# programming. I&#39;m following few books. It is said that instead of compiling C# code directly to machine code, it is converted into an intermediate language (called MSIL aka CIL). But when I compile, I get an exe/dll file.

1. Is this MSIL/CIL contained in these exe/dll files?
2. I want to see that intermediate language code, just to get feel for its existence. How do I view it?
3. They are calling this exe/dll file an `assembly`. Are they using this &quot;fancy word&quot; just to differentiate these from the exe/dll files that contain native/machine code?

Emitting unencoded strings in a Razor view

On attempting to deploy a .net 3.5 website on the default app pool in IIS7 having the framework section set to 4.0, I get the following error.

We upgraded from .NET 2.0 to .NET 3.5.  A co-worker of mine is getting the following dialog when attempting to run the ASP .NET web project under the debugger in Visual Studio 2008.  He can build fine, but he can&#39;t debug (hence, it&#39;s a run-time issue):

Extender Provider failed to return an Extender

I understand that `IValidatableObject` is used to validate an object in a way that lets one compare properties against each other.  

I&#39;d still like to have attributes to validate individual properties, but I want to ignore failures on some properties in certain cases.

Am I trying to use it incorrectly in the case below?  If not how do I implement this?

How do I use IValidatableObject?

Wanting to create custom data annotation validation. Are there any useful guides / samples on how to create them?

Firstly:  
StringLength with minimum and maximum length. I&#39;m aware .NET 4 can do this, but want to do the same in .NET 3.5, if possible being able to define minimum length only (at least x chars), maximum length only (up to x chars), or both (between x and y chars).

Secondly:  
Validation using modulus arithmetic - if the number is a valid length, I wish to validate using the Modulus 11 algorithm (I have already implemented it in JavaScript, so I guess it would just be a simple porting?)

**Update:**  
Solved second problem, was just a case of copying over the JavaScript implementation and making a few tweaks, so don&#39;t need a solution for that.

We have several .NET projects where we store certain settings in configuration files.

Now each developer will have their own configuration files that differ a little (different connection strings to connect to local databases, different [WCF][1] endpoints, etc.)

At the moment we tend to check out app/web.config files and modify them to suit our needs.

This leads to many problems since from time to time someone will check in their own settings or loose custom configuration when getting latest version from [TFS][2].

How do you deal with situations like this? Or don&#39;t you have this problem at all?

Developer specific app.config/web.config files in Visual Studio

How can I add and read the value from **web.config** file?

We (our IT partner really) recently changed some DNS for a web farmed site we have, so that the two production server have round-robin DNS switching between them. Prior to this switch we didn&#39;t really have problems with `WebResource.axd` files. Since the switch, when we hit the live public URL, we get an error:

When we hit the specific servers themselves, they load fine. I&#39;ve researched the issue and it seems since they&#39;re sharing assets between two servers, we need to have a consistent `machineKey` in the `web.config` for each server so they can encrypt and decrypt consistently between the two. My questions are:

1. Can I generate a `machineKey` via a tool on the server, or do I need to write code to do this?
2. Do I just need to add the `machineKey` to the `web.config` on each server or do you think I&#39;ll need to do anything else to make the two server work together? (Both `web.config`&#39;s currently do not have a `machineKey`)
