Basically I would like to tell MSTest to execute a bit of code before launching into a series of test runs, essentially what I would like to do is the same thing as sticking some code in `Main()`.

The reason I would like to do this is that I would like to do some logging with log4net during my integration test runs.  I cannot just use the `log4net.Config.XmlConfigurator` assembly attribute since by the time it reads it in my test assembly it has already called `LoggerManager`. The documentation recommends configuring log4net explicitly at the code entry point - but where is that in my tests?

I need to be able to run my tests in TestDriven.NET and MSTest runner.

I am trying to learn python and am making a program that will output a script.  I want to use os.path.join, but am pretty confused.  According to the [docs](http://docs.python.org/library/os.path.html) if I say:

    os.path.join(&#39;c:&#39;, &#39;sourcedir&#39;)

I get `&quot;C:sourcedir&quot;`.  According to the docs, this is normal, right?

But when I use the copytree command, Python will output it the desired way, for example:

    import shutil
    src = os.path.join(&#39;c:&#39;, &#39;src&#39;)
    dst = os.path.join(&#39;c:&#39;, &#39;dst&#39;)
    shutil.copytree(src, dst)

Here is the error code I get:

&lt;pre&gt;
WindowsError: [Error 3] The system cannot find the path specified: &#39;C:src/*.*&#39;
&lt;/pre&gt;


If I wrap the `os.path.join` with `os.path.normpath` I get the same error.

If this `os.path.join` can&#39;t be used this way, then I am confused as to its purpose.

According to the pages suggested by Stack Overflow, slashes should not be used in join&amp;mdash;that is correct, I assume?

Currently I&#39;m using this:

    f = open(filename, &#39;r+&#39;)
    text = f.read()
    text = re.sub(&#39;foobar&#39;, &#39;bar&#39;, text)
    f.seek(0)
    f.write(text)
    f.close()

But the problem is that the old file is larger than the new file. So I end up with a new file that has a part of the old file on the end of it.

Obviously Python is more user friendly, a quick search on google shows many results that say that, as Python is byte-compiled is usually faster. I can&#39;t figure out how to look ahead one element in a Python generator. As soon as I look it&#39;s gone.

Here is what I mean:

    gen = iter([1,2,3])
    next_value = gen.next()  # okay, I looked forward and see that next_value = 1
    # but now:
    list(gen)  # is [2, 3]  -- the first value is gone!
    
Here is a more real example:

    gen = element_generator()
    if gen.next_value() == &#39;STOP&#39;:
      quit_application()
    else:
      process(gen.next())

Bash, no-arguments warning, and case decisions

I&#39;m trying to get the contents of a directory using shell script.

My script is:

    for entry in `ls $search_dir`; do
        echo $entry
    done

where `$search_dir` is a relative path. However, `$search_dir` contains many files with whitespaces in their names. In that case, this script does not run as expected.

I know I could use `for entry in *`, but that would only work for my current directory.

I know I can change to that directory, use `for entry in *` then change back, but my particular situation prevents me from doing that.

I have two relative paths `$search_dir` and `$work_dir`, and I have to work on both simultaneously, reading them creating/deleting files in them etc.

So what do I do now?

PS: I use bash.
