The [GraphicsMagick homepage][1] has a list of differences. But it might be a bit biased. In general, GraphicsMagick seems to be faster (see e.g. [this article][2]), with a more stable API and less bugs. Many big websites uses it instead of ImageMagick.

I have tried both ways using

However neither of them seem to add to this section. I have tried restarting the  computer as well to see if it would take effect then. I have looked at technet along with countless other websites, but nothing I have tried has worked.

Updating [RMagick][1] and [Imagemagick][2] is a painful expierence. I have updated the Imagemagick version on my mac (MacOS El Capitan Version 10.11.5) with homebrew for one project in Ruby 2.3 to `6.9.5-9` 

    $ convert --version
    Version: ImageMagick 6.9.5-9 Q16 x86_64 2016-09-09

Now an older project in Ruby 1.8.7 refuses to work with the error message &quot;this installation of RMagick was configured with ImageMagick 6.8.9 but ImageMagick 6.9.5-9 is in use&quot;. Thus I uninstalled &quot;rmagick&quot;, but it can not be installed again

    $ gem install rmagick -v 2.16.0
    Building native extensions.  This could take a while...
    ERROR:  Error installing rmagick:
    ERROR: Failed to build gem native extension.

    checking for /usr/local/opt/gcc46/bin/gcc-4.6... yes
    checking for Magick-config... yes
    checking for outdated ImageMagick version (&lt;= 6.4.9)... no
    checking for presence of MagickWand API (ImageMagick version &gt;= 6.9.0)... no
    checking for Ruby version &gt;= 1.8.5... yes
    checking for stdint.h... no
    checking for sys/types.h... no
    checking for wand/MagickWand.h... no

    Can&#39;t install RMagick 2.16.0. Can&#39;t find MagickWand.h. 

And if it can not be installed, the whole application can not be started. I tried all the answers from [here][3], and none of them works on MacOS :-( I reinstalled imagemagick and pkg-config with homebrew, and tried various version of RMagick without success. 2.16.0 is the latest version of [RMagick][4] currently. 

MagicWand seems to be used in ImageMagick version &gt; 6.9, and it can be found on the machine: 

    find /usr/local -name MagickWand.h
    =&gt; /usr/local/Cellar/imagemagick/6.9.5-9_1/include/ImageMagick-6/wand/MagickWand.h

    find /usr/local -name MagickWand.pc
    =&gt; /usr/local/Cellar/imagemagick/6.9.5-9_1/lib/pkgconfig/MagickCore.pc

It does not work even if I specifiy the these paths during the gem install (same error as above) :-(

    C_INCLUDE_PATH=/usr/local/Cellar/imagemagick/6.9.5-9_1/include/ImageMagick-6 PKG_CONFIG_PATH=/usr/local/lib/pkgconfig gem install rmagick

UPDATE:

The error only occurs for Ruby 1.8.7, it is possible to install RMagick for Ruby 2.0 and Ruby 2.3. Ruby 1.8.7 and ImageMagick 6.9.5 do not seem to be compatible.

 - Ruby 1.8.7 x
 - Ruby 2.0.0 ✓ 
 - Ruby 2.3.1 ✓

RMagick installation: Can&#39;t find MagickWand.h

I want to create a captcha pic by use `convert` from ImageMagick.

And I follow [this][1], but there are some problem .

Input In my linux shell:

    convert -background white -fill black -font FreeSerif-Bold -pointsize 36 label:&#39;adfgh&#39; ./test.png

The Error is:

&gt; convert:not authorized `adfgh` @ error/constitute.c/ReadImage/453.
&gt; convert:missing an image filename `./test.png` @

My ImageMagick: Version:6.7.2-7 , I install it with `yum install ImageMagick` .

Apple has introduced a new image format in iOS 11 called [HEIF](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Efficiency_Image_File_Format) (.heic file extension). I know you can export images as JPG from iOS devices, but I want to upload the HEIC-files to my server and convert them there to JPEG files that can be shown on all other devices.

Can anyone recommend a good and efficient way to achieve this?

I have a program, in which I need to convert a PDF to an image using Image Magick. I do that using the `subprocess` package:

I think this is because ImageMagick isn&#39;t authorized to access the PDF. What should be done now? I&#39;m on a Linux server. Any help is appreciated.



ImageMagick not authorized to convert PDF to an image

The Imagemagick security policy seems to be not allowing me perform this conversion from pdf to png. Converting other extensions seem to be working, just not from pdf. I haven&#39;t changed any of the imagemagick settings since I installed it... I am using Arch Linux, if the OS matters.

    user@machine $ convert -density 300 -depth 8 -quality 90 input.pdf output.png
