Is it possible to return two lists from a list comprehension? Well, this obviously doesn&#39;t work, but something like:

    rr, tt = [i*10, i*12 for i in xrange(4)]

So `rr` and `tt` both are lists with the results from `i*10` and `i*12` respectively.

Is it possible to seek to a particular point in `html5 video` displayed in a web page? I mean ,can I  input a particular time value (say `01:20:30:045` ) and have the player control (slider) move to that point and play from that point onwards?

In older version of mozilla `vlcplugin` I think this is possible by `seek(seconds,is_relative)` method..but I would like to know if this is possible in html video.

I created the page with video and added javascript as below.When I click on the link ,it displays the time of click..but it doesn&#39;t increment the play location..but continues to play normally.

We recently decided at my job to a ruby style guide. One of the edicts is that no line should be wider than 80 characters. Since this is a Rails project, we often have strings that are a little bit longer - i.e. &quot;**User X wanted to send you a message about Thing Y**&quot; that doesn&#39;t always fit within the 80 character style limit. 

I understand there are three ways to have a long string span multiple lines:

 - HEREDOC
 - %Q{}
 - Actual string concatenation.

However, all of these cases end up taking more computation cycles, which seems silly. String concatenation obviously, but for `HEREDOC` and `%Q` I have to strip out the newlines, via something like `.gsub(/\n$/, &#39;&#39;)`. 

Is there a pure syntax way to do this, that is equivalent to just having the whole string on one line? The goal being, obviously, to not spend any extra cycles just because I want my code to be slightly more readable. (Yes, I realize that you have to make that tradeoff a lot...but for string length, this just seems silly.) 


Update: 
Backslashes aren&#39;t exactly what I want because you lose indentation, which really affects style/readability.

Example:

    if foo
      string = &quot;this is a \  
    string that spans lines&quot;  
    end

I find the above a bit hard to read.

I just started blogging using jekyll. I write my posts in markdown. Now,  I want to include a youtube video in my post. How can I do this?

Also, I dont really like the pygments highlighting provided by jekyll by default. Is there anyway I can change  this to some other style? If yes, can you point me to some nice styles/plugins?

I&#39;m just starting out with Ruby (and rails). I did the setup according to http://ruby.railstutorial.org/ruby-on-rails-tutorial-book#sec:ruby gems, using `rvm`. I have everything working well with sqlite. 

Now I&#39;d like to try converting things over to MySQL, since that&#39;s what I do most of my development with. In my Gemfile I&#39;ve replaced sqlite with mysql2:

I&#39;ve seen other postings recommending re-installing MySQL via homebrew (mine was installed via a downloadable DMG), but I&#39;d prefer not to do that as I have several other databases in there already for other non-ruby projects.

I do in fact have the file that Rails is looking for; it&#39;s installed in `/usr/local/mysql/lib/libmysqlclient.18.dylib`. What&#39;s the best way to tell Rails how to locate it?

From examining the documentation for Ruby 1.9.3, both `Array#&lt;&lt;` and `Array#push` were designed to implement appending an element to the end of the current array.  However, there seem to be subtle differences between the two.

The one I have encountered is that the `*` operator can be used to append the contents of an entire other array to the current one, but only with `#push`.

    a = [1,2,3]
    b = [4,5,6]
    
    a.push *b
    =&gt; [1,2,3,4,5,6]

Attempting to use `#&lt;&lt;` instead gives various errors, depending on whether it&#39;s used with the dot operator and/or parentheses.

Why does `#&lt;&lt;` not work the same way `#push` does? Is one not actually an alias for the other?

Ruby - Difference between Array#&lt;&lt; and Array#push

So essentially I&#39;m looking for specifically a 4 digit code within two angle brackets within a text file. I know that I need to open the text file and then parse line by line, but I am not sure the best way to go about structuring my code after checking &quot;for line in file&quot;.
