Use forward slashes to specify the [UNC][1] Path:

    open(&#39;//HOST/share/path/to/file&#39;)

(if your Python client code is also running under Windows)

How did you try it? Maybe you are working with `\` and omit proper escaping.

Instead of

    open(&#39;\\HOST\share\path\to\file&#39;)

use either Johnsyweb&#39;s solution with the `/`s, or try one of

    open(r&#39;\\HOST\share\path\to\file&#39;)

or

    open(&#39;\\\\HOST\\share\\path\\to\\file&#39;)

.

I had the same issue as OP but none of the current answers solved my issue so to add a slightly different answer that did work for me:

Running Python 3.6.5 on a Windows Machine, I used the format

**r&quot;\\DriveName\then\file\path\txt.md&quot;**

so the combination of double backslashes from reading @Johnsyweb UNC link and adding the r in front as recommended solved my similar to OP&#39;s issue.

From test, I concluded that in following three cases the `socket.recv(recv_size)` will return.

1. After the connection was closed. For example, the client side
   called socket.close() or any socket error occurred, it would return
   empty string.

2. Some data come, the size of data is more than `recv_size`.
3. Some data come, the size of data is less than `recv_size` and no more data come after a short time (I found 0.1s would work).

More details about #3:

When does socket.recv(recv_size) return?

Trying to get to grips with regular expressions in Python, I&#39;m trying to output some HTML highlighted in part of a URL. My input is

    images/:id/size

my output should be

    images/&lt;span&gt;:id&lt;/span&gt;/size

If I do this in Javascript

    method = &#39;images/:id/size&#39;;
    method = method.replace(/\:([a-z]+)/, &#39;&lt;span&gt;$1&lt;/span&gt;&#39;)
    alert(method)

I get the desired result, but if I do this in Python

    &gt;&gt;&gt; method = &#39;images/:id/huge&#39;
    &gt;&gt;&gt; re.sub(&#39;\:([a-z]+)&#39;, &#39;&lt;span&gt;$1&lt;/span&gt;&#39;, method)
    &#39;images/&lt;span&gt;$1&lt;/span&gt;/huge&#39;

I don&#39;t, how do I get Python to return the correct result rather than `$1`? Is `re.sub` even the right function to do this?

What I&#39;m missing here? `ConcreteClass` *must* implement the abstract methods, but I get no exception.

python @abstractmethod decorator

I have a dictionary like this:

    A = {&#39;a&#39;:10, &#39;b&#39;:843, &#39;c&#39;: 39,.....}

I want to get the 5 maximum values of this dict and store a new dict with this. To get the maximum value I did:

    max(A.iteritems(), key=operator.itemgetter(1))[0:]

Perhaps it is an easy task, but I am stuck on it for a long time. Please help!!!

I&#39;d like to modify the path to my application, but doing so breaks it because the service still points to the old location. 

By going to `Administrative Tools &gt; Services` you can open a properties dialog and view the `Path to executable`, but there is no way to change it.

Endianness from what I understand, is when the bytes that compose a multibyte word differ in their order, at least in the most typical case.  So that an 16-bit integer may be stored as either `0xHHLL` or `0xLLHH`.  

Assuming I don&#39;t have that wrong, what I would like to know is when does Endianness become a major factor when sending information between two computers where the Endian may or may not be different.

 * If I transmit a short integer of 1, in the form of a char array and with no correction, is it received and interpretted as 256?

 * If I decompose and recompose the short integer using the following code, will endianness no longer be a factor?

I need to SSH localhost without password, the usual way of doing it (with public keys) do not work.

How to ssh to localhost without password?

I&#39;ve been trying to wrap my head around how sockets work, and I&#39;ve been trying to pick apart some sample code I found at [this page](http://www.pythonprasanna.com/Papers%20and%20Articles/Sockets/tcpclient_py.txt) for a very simple client socket program. Since this is basic sample code, I assumed it had no errors, but when I try to compile it, I get the following error message.

Any help is greatly appreciated, since I&#39;m very new to network programming and fairly new to python.
