I&#39;m looking for String extension methods for `TrimStart()` and `TrimEnd()` that accept a string parameter.  

I could build one myself but I&#39;m always interested in seeing how other people do things.

How can this be done?

I have just started using WPF forms instead of Windows Forms forms. In a Windows Forms form I could just do:

    ComboBox.SelectedValue.toString();

And this would work fine.

If my list was of type double I may be able to do something like this:

    double total = myList.Sum();

However I want to something similar to this, yet this syntax is incorrect.

    double total = myList.amount.Sum();

How should I go about accomplishing this? I would love to use the Sum function if possible instead of looping through and calculating the value.

To get stuck in straight away, a very basic example:

If I compile this with default options (using csc at command line), as expected, it will compile to a console application. Also, because I imported `System.Windows.Forms`, it will also show a message box.

Now, if I use the option `/target:winexe`, which I think is the same as choosing `Windows Application` from within project options, as expected I will only see the Message Box and no console output.

(In fact, the moment it is launched from command line, I can issue the next command before the application has even completed).

So, my question is - I know that you can have &quot;windows&quot;/forms output from a console application, but is there anyway to show the console from a Windows application?

I would like to know what are the approaches that you use to manage the executables in your system. For example I have almost everything accessible through the command line, but now I come to the limit of the path string, so i can&#39;t add any more dir.

So what do you recommend?
A long time ago, I tried to use softLinks of the executables in a Dir that belonged to the path, but that approach didn&#39;t work.
Throw the &quot;executable only&quot; to a known Dir,has the problems that almost any application require a set of files, so this also is bad.
Throw the executable and all his files to a known Dir, mmm this will work, but the possibility to get a conflict in the name of the files is very very high.
Create a HardLink? i don&#39;t know. What do you think?

I have an installation of Git for Windows, but when I try to use the `git` command in Command Prompt, I get the following error:

I have searched high and low and get a lot of different solutions and variables containing info to get the absolute path.  But they seem to work under some conditions and not under others.  Is there one silver bullet way to get the absolute path of the executed script in PHP?  For me, the script will run from the command line, but, a solution should function just as well if run within Apache etc.

**Clarification:  The initially executed script, not necessarily the file where the solution is coded.**

I have a Bash script that needs to know its full path. I&#39;m trying to find a broadly-compatible way of doing that without ending up with relative or funky-looking paths. I only need to support Bash, not sh, csh, etc.

What I&#39;ve found so far:

1. The accepted answer to *https://stackoverflow.com/questions/59895/can-a-bash-script-tell-what-directory-its-stored-in* addresses getting the path of the script via `dirname $0`, which is fine, but that may return a *relative* path (like `.`), which is a problem if you want to change directories in the script and have the path still point to the script&#39;s directory. Still, `dirname` will be part of the puzzle.

2. The accepted answer to *https://stackoverflow.com/questions/3572030/bash-script-absolute-path-with-osx* *(OS X specific, but the answer works regardless)* gives a function that will test to see if `$0` looks relative and if so will pre-pend `$PWD` to it. But the result can still have relative bits in it (although overall it&#39;s absolute)&amp;nbsp;&amp;mdash; for instance, if the script is `t` in the directory `/usr/bin` and you&#39;re in `/usr` and you type `bin/../bin/t` to run it (yes, that&#39;s convoluted), you end up with `/usr/bin/../bin` as the script&#39;s directory path. Which **works**, but...

3. The `readlink` solution [on this page][3], which looks like this:

        # Absolute path to this script. /home/user/bin/foo.sh
        SCRIPT=$(readlink -f $0)
        # Absolute path this script is in. /home/user/bin
        SCRIPTPATH=`dirname $SCRIPT`

    But `readlink` isn&#39;t POSIX and apparently the solution relies on GNU&#39;s `readlink` where BSD&#39;s won&#39;t work for some reason (I don&#39;t have access to a BSD-like system to check).

So, various ways of doing it, but they all have their caveats.

What would be a better way? Where &quot;better&quot; means:

* Gives me the absolute path.
* Takes out funky bits even when invoked in a convoluted way (see comment on #2 above). (E.g., at least moderately canonicalizes the path.)
* Relies only on Bash-isms or things that are almost certain to be on most popular flavors of \*nix systems (GNU/Linux, BSD and BSD-like systems like OS&amp;nbsp;X, etc.).
* Avoids calling external programs if possible (e.g., prefers Bash built-ins).
* (**Updated**, thanks for the heads up, [wich][4]) It doesn&#39;t have to resolve symlinks (in fact, I&#39;d kind of prefer it left them alone, but that&#39;s not a requirement).

I ran it on two computers both having windows 7. It works correctly on one but does not on 2nd. It looks something with windows environment instead some code issue? Can anyone suggest any fix?

There is no change in code. I used longer paths from different drives but results are same.
