What you can do in Windows Azure Websites (on web.config level) is pretty limited, but you [should][1] be allowed to add the mime type under **staticContent**:

I know that the `@` prefix suppresses output from a shell command in Makefiles, and also that the `-` prefix will ignore errors from a shell command. Is there a way to combine the two, i.e. a prefix that suppresses output and ignores errors? I don&#39;t think `@-` or `-@` works.

I have some IIS rewrite rules that I want to vary by environment. The development rewrite rules are in the web.config file, then at the end of the web.test.config file I have:

My app settings are getting transformed when I deploy to test, but by IIS rewrite rules are not. I was hoping the entire `&lt;rewrite&gt;` section would simply be replaced with the one in the transform file (as per http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd465326.aspx), but nothing is changing.

I have tried putting `xdt:Transform=&quot;Replace&quot; xdt:Locator=&quot;Match(name)&quot;&gt;` on the individual rules too:

Replacing IIS rewrite rules in web.config transform

Clearly I&#39;m missing something, I&#39;m unable to deploy a simple ASP.NET MVC 4, .NET 4.5 app on a Windows Small Business Server 2008 on IIS 7.

.NET framework 4.5 is installed.

Should I be supposed to see that version (4.5) on the Application Pool basic settings of the application? At this time, I only have 2.0 and 4.0, since 4.5 is like the 3.5 which only add on top of the 4.0 framework, I guess this is normal.

When I browse the home page, I got the following error:

403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.
You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied.

When I request the only controller named Page /page/index I get the 404 not found page. Like the ASP.NET process never get the http request.

I can request a simple HTML page.

The Application Pool is set to .NET 4.0 and Integrated as the Managed pipeline mode.

NETWORK SERVICE has read/write access to the directory.

The app work flawlessly from VS2012 of course.

I&#39;m clueless on what&#39;s not right here, and search engine queries are not helping much.

Does anyone would have a hint, that would be extremely appreciated.

The dlls are already on the bin folder like System.Web.Mvc, System.Web.Razor etc.

I created a empty test.aspx page to make sure asp.net worker process was getting the request, and yes the page was OK. So it appears that the MVC routing is not working, though I have ASP.NET MVC 3 web app working fine on that server.

After the .NET 4.5 installation I did a aspnet_regiis -iru in case, that added an aspnet_client folder on the app, but still this does not fix the issue.

Anonymous Authentication is Enable on IIS Authentication section, and Authorization show allow for all users.

ASP.NET MVC 4 is installed, I just did a repair to make sure.

Eventhough the ASP.NET MVC 4 is installed, the 404 error from requesting the /page/index action is returned by the standard IIS and not the standard aspnet error. So indeed it appears like the MVC 4 framework is not properly installed, by I just double check and do a repair. Where can I continue to investigate?

@Mystere Man, I&#39;ve changed the Anonymous Authentication to use the Application Pool identity, stop, start the app and still the same error. It really look like if ASP.NET MVC 4 is not taking the request.

I&#39;ve re-pair Microsoft Framework .NET 4.5 and repair the ASP.NET MVC 4, re-deploy the simple ASP.NET MVC 4 app, and I still get the same behaviour. I&#39;m not sure what to do next, so I started a bounty in the hope that someone could help me find the problem.

When I asked that question, I flagged the runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests as the accepted answer because it did solve the problem. But I was certainly not going to use this in production. I ask why I had to do this and did not have any answers.

Than [Martin Hollingsworth][1] answer was really what I was looking for, a good way to fix this problem without all the performance issues related to the runAllManagedModulesForAllRequests.

We almost gave up and bought a new Windows 2012 server (from which the ASP.NET MVC app work as is). After trying Martin&#39;s solution, the Windows 2008 server worked.

ASP.NET 4.5 MVC 4 not working on Windows Server 2008 IIS 7

I have the [AngularJS seed project][1] and I&#39;ve added 

    $locationProvider.html5Mode(true).hashPrefix(&#39;!&#39;);
 to the app.js file. I want to configure IIS 7 to route all requests to     

    http://localhost/app/index.html

so that this works for me. How do I do this?

I&#39;ve just discovered, downloaded and installed the [IIS URL Rewrite module][2], hoping this will make it easy and obvious to achieve my goal.

I guess this sums up what I&#39;m trying to achieve (taken from the [AngularJS Developer documentation][3]):

I&#39;m still working on this and I realise I need to NOT redirect (have rules that rewrite) certain URLs such as 

    http://localhost/app/lib/angular/angular.js
    http://localhost/app/partials/partial1.html

so anything that is in the css, js, lib or partials directories isn&#39;t redirected. Everything else will need to be redirected to app/index.html

Anyone know how to achieve this easily without having to add a rule for every single file?

I have 2 inbound rules defined in the IIS URL Rewrite module. The first rule is:

Now when I navigate to localhost/app/view1 it loads the page, however the supporting files (the ones in the css, js, lib and partials directories) are also being rewritten to the app/index.html page - so everything is coming back as the index.html page no matter what URL is used. I guess this means my first rule, that is supposed to prevent these URLs from being processed by the second rule, isn&#39;t working.. any ideas? ...anyone? ...I feel so alone... :-(

How do I configure IIS for URL Rewriting an AngularJS application in HTML5 mode?

Why won&#39;t `Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable(&quot;variableName&quot;)` get a variable&#39;s value if the call is made from within a webMethod hosted on IIS and it will work if I call it from a console application on the same machine?

Where do I set up those variables to be visible to IIS web services? Should I use the second parameter from `Environment.GetEnvironmentVariable(name, target)` to get it?

Error - Unable to access the IIS metabase

I need to remove [excessive headers][1] (primarily to pass penetration testing). I have spent time looking at solutions that involve running UrlScan, but these are cumbersome as [UrlScan needs to be installed each time an Azure instance is started][2].

There must be a good solution for Azure that does not involve deploying installers from startup.cmd.

I understand that the response headers are added in [different places][3]:

 - **Server**: added by IIS.
 - **X-AspNet-Version**: added by System.Web.dll at the time of Flush in HttpResponse class
 - **X-AspNetMvc-Version**: Added by MvcHandler in System.Web.dll.
 - **X-Powered-By**: added by IIS

Is there any way to configure (via web.config etc.?) IIS7 to remove/hide/disable the HTTP response headers to avoid the &quot;Excessive Headers&quot; warning at [asafaweb.com][4], without creating an IIS module or deploying installers which need to be run each time an Azure instance starts?

Removing/Hiding/Disabling excessive HTTP response headers in Azure/IIS7 without UrlScan

I&#39;m trying to make a webapi in ASP.NET MVC 4. The webapi used Entity Framework 5 Spatial types and i have wrote a very simple code.

Area contains DbGeometry.

When i run this local it works, but when i publish it to azure it gives me this error:

Apparently one must explicitly specify (whitelist) the IP addresses that will be allowed access to a SQL Azure DB. I want, though, to have N-gazillion* users that will access these tables for data specific to them.

How can I allow unknown users to access my SQL (Azure) DB?

I&#39;m finding a way to aggregate strings from different rows into a single row. I&#39;m looking to do this in many different places, so having a function to facilitate this would be nice. I&#39;ve tried solutions using `COALESCE` and `FOR XML`, but they just don&#39;t cut it for me.

String aggregation would do something like this:

I&#39;ve taken a look at [CLR-defined aggregate functions][1] as a replacement for `COALESCE` and `FOR XML`, but apparently **SQL Azure** *does not* support CLR-defined stuff, which is a pain for me because I know being able to use it would solve a whole lot of problems for me.

Is there any possible workaround, or similarly optimal method (which might not be as optimal as CLR, but *hey* I&#39;ll take what I can get) that I can use to aggregate my stuff?

I am able to produce the desired result visually, but the way I did it is hardly optimal as it involves hard-coding the x-y coordinates for each text element. Below is the code:

The `node` class is custom CSS class I&#39;ve defined separately for the `circle` elements, whereas classes `nodes` and `labels` are not explicitly defined and they are borrowed from this [answer][1].

As seen, the positioning of each text label is hard-coded so that it appears at the center of the each node. Obviously, this is not the right solution.

My question is that how should I correctly associate each text label with each node circle dynamically so that if the positioning of a label changes along with that of a circle automatically. Conceptual explanation is extremely welcome with code example.

And it works great. However, when embedding an SVG font, chrome tells you the mime type is incorrect, obviously because you return a font instead of an image.

Is there any universal mime type? is chrome wrong? is `application/svg+xml` accepted somehow?

I guess this is still a gray area in HTML5 but someone here might know.

This is a self Q&amp;A of a handy piece of code I came up with.

Currently, there isn&#39;t an easy way to embed an SVG image and then have access to the SVG elements via CSS. There are various methods of using JS SVG frameworks, but they are overly complicated if all you are doing is making a simple icon with a rollover state.

What login credentials do I use to connect to the FTP site that is listed on the dashboard of my Azure?

I tried using the same credentials I use to log into Azure, but this failed.

After the new model was implemented, all of my websites now belong to individual Resource Groups called &quot;Default-Web-East&quot; and all of my SQL databases belong to individual Resource Groups called &quot;Default-SQL-East&quot;.

This is confusing to say the least.

I would like to rename the groups to have some semantic meaning.  I would also like to group the associated SQL database and Web Site in the same Resource Group. 

However, I do not see anyway to do either.  Is this possible?

1) Rename the Resource Group?
2) Combine an existing SQL DB and Website together into one Resource Group?

I can see there&#39;s the Visual Studio Online option which allows you to live edit your server code but that is more than I need.  I just want to be able to check that certain files are deployed and others are not.

I&#39;ve been reading a few tutorials now on deploying Web Apps and API Apps to Azure. However, I am still a little unsure as to why you would use one over another. 

I can create a new .NET solution with API controllers and deploy this as a Web App, so why would I specifically require an API App? Are these optimized specifically for ASP.NET Web API, where as Web Apps are for delivering HTML?
