1. LocalDB was introduced in SQL Server 2012 CTP3. It’s basically a new version of SQL Express, with same functionality, dedicated to developers. So you don’t need to install any SQL server. If you have installed SQL 2012 or Visual Studio 11 then you already have it, and it runs over .Net 4 or higher. If you are using Visual Studio 11 and have been playing with the new EntityFramework and MVC, you can see it on the default connection string. 

2. MDF is the default extension for SQL Server database files. (Log files are LDF) Also see [this question][2].

3. You can restore to a specific folder by using `RESTORE DATABASE WITH MOVE` as documented on MSDN [here][3].

4. LocalDB is intended for developers, see point 1.

I&#39;m updating my app for iOS 7 and I discovered a weird problem. I&#39;m presenting a UIViewController wrapped in a UINavigationController with `UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal`. 

In iOS 6 it works fine, but in iOS 7 the navigation bar bounces after the transition. Does this have something to do with the status bar? I&#39;ve set translucency of the main navigation bar to `NO`.

In the Info.plist, *View controller-based status bar appearance* is set to NO.

iOS7 UIModalTransitionStyleFlipHorizontal bounces after transition

How can I hide the progress display of `Invoke-WebRequest`? I do a lot of successive requests and have my own `Write-Progress` display that I use, so I don&#39;t need the built-in one popping up underneath it every time.

I use the mshtml results (the IE COM object) that are created from the result of `Invoke-WebRequest` automatically, so I can&#39;t switch to a `WebClient` or something like that, unless someone provides instructions on how to get an mshtml object from a WebClient request.

JDBC connection failed, error: TCP/IP connection to host failed

I am going to get the list of all users, including Windows users and &#39;sa&#39;, who have access to a particular database in MS SQL Server.
Basically, I would like the list to look like as what is shown in `SQL Server Management Studio` (i.e. the list that is shown when you expand `[databse] -&gt; Security -&gt; Users`) with one important exception: I do not want to see the `&#39;dbo&#39;` in the list. Rather, I would like to see the actual user who owns the database. So, for example, if &#39;sa&#39; is the `&#39;dbo&#39;`, `&#39;sa&#39;` must be included in the list instead of `&#39;dbo&#39;`. Another note not to be missed is, the list in the `SQL Server Management Studio` normally shows Windows users in addition to SQL users, And I would like those users to be included as well.

So far, I have been able to come up with the following query:

    SELECT * FROM sys.database_principals where (type=&#39;S&#39; or type = &#39;U&#39;)

This query is almost right but the problem is it doesn&#39;t satisfy the `&#39;dbo&#39;` condition. 

How can I change this query or should I use another one?

How to get the list of all database users

I have the following code which will create a comma delimited list for my results:

    DECLARE @listStr VARCHAR(MAX)
    SELECT @listStr = COALESCE(@listStr+&#39;, &#39; ,&#39;&#39;) + INSTITUTIONNAME
    FROM EDUCATION
    WHERE STUDENTNUMBER= &#39;111&#39;
    SELECT @listStr

The problem is its creating one massive comma delimited line. I need it to return a comma separated list per row.

So if `Simon` has been part of 2 institutions, then i expect:

    &quot;INSTITUTION1, INSTITUTION2&quot;

As i didnt supply a where clause i expect my results to show up like this for each row in the database.

I am working on modifying the existing SQL Server stored procedure. I added two new columns to the table and modified the stored procedure as well to select these two columns as well. Although the columns are available in the table, I keep getting this error:

I am normally using SQL Server 2012 Management Studio to restore a SQL Server database from a &quot;bak&quot; file. I do this by overwriting an existing database. In the &quot;Options&quot; page, there is a check-box labeled &quot;Close existing connections to destination database&quot;, which I mostly check because the target database is always &quot;in use&quot;, even if I just restarted the MS SQL Service and I am sure that there are no applications using it. 

Anyway, on my client&#39;s computer, I saw that that checkbox to close existing connections is grayed out without any information. How and why does this happen? A google search didn&#39;t yield any results.

I&#39;ve created a table and then realised I made a mistake. SSMS wouldn&#39;t let me update the table without recreating it, so I&#39;ve deleted the table and then tried to create it again.

It won&#39;t let me do this, and I get an error dialog

&gt; Table &#39;dbo.Foo&#39; already exists.

So I try to delete it again:

    drop table dbo.Foo

&gt; Cannot drop the table &#39;dbo.Foo&#39;, because it does not exist or you do not have permission.

Refreshing the IntelliSense cache does not help.

How can I resolve the &quot;Table &#39;dbo.Foo&#39; already exists.&quot; error when the table does not exist?

I have an existing query that outputs current data, and I would like to insert it into a Temp table, but am having some issues doing so. Would anybody have some insight on how to do this?

This seems to output my data currently the way that i need it to, but I would like to pass it into a Temp Table. My problem is that I am pretty new to SQL Queries and have not been able to find a way to do so. Or if it is even possible. If it is not possible, is there a better way to get the data that i am looking for `WHERE application LIKE isNull(&#39;%MORESTUFF%&#39;,&#39;%&#39;)` into a temp table?

I have a Table (call it `A_table`) in a database (call it `A_db`) in Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, and there are 10 rows.

I have another database (call it `B_db`), and it has a Table (call it `B_table`), which has the same column settings as `A_table` has. But the `B_table` is empty.

 - **Copy** every rows from `A_table` to `B_table`.

I can&#39;t believe I couldn&#39;t find a working solution to this after an hour of searching. I&#39;m following [this article](http://www.dotnetcurry.com/showarticle.aspx?ID=941) on Entity Framework 6.0 which gives a simple walk-through on Code First. I created the project and installed the latest [EF Nuget package](https://www.nuget.org/packages/EntityFramework/6.0.2) for the project to compile. I also verified that I have Microsoft SQL Server 2012 Express LocalDB installed which came with Visual Studio 2013. I don&#39;t have any other instances of SQL installed on my local computer. The program runs and entries are added to the database and outputted in the console. But when the article says &quot;check your localdb&quot; it doesn&#39;t say how! I don&#39;t see any &#39;.mdf&#39; or &#39;.ldf&#39; files created under the project folder. I tried every way to connect Visual Studio&#39;s Server Explorer to LocalDB. The wizard cannot locate `(localdb)` or cannot find any provider in Server Explorer to accept connection string like `(localdb)\v11.0;Integrated Security=true;` I&#39;ve seen this asked several places in StackOverflow but no answer works or marked as answer. ### Problem

I don&#39;t understand how to make LocalDB show up in the SQL Server Object Explorer. On some VMs, it shows up automatically, on some other VMs, it doesn&#39;t. Still, after googling for hours, I don&#39;t get it.

### Current situation

1. I have a clean VM
1. I installed Visual Studio 2015 Community (all default settings)
1. I let a console application run (Entity Framework 6, code-first, console application) which worked on another VM and created a database automatically which then showed up in the SQL Server Object Explorer; but not this time

The error says:

    System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException (0x80131904): A network-related or instance-specific error occurred while establishing a connection to SQL Server. The server was not found or was not accessible. Verify that the instance name is correct and that SQL Server is configured to allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 52 - Unable to locate a Local Database Runtime installation. Verify that SQL Server Express is properly installed and that the Local Database Runtime feature is enabled.) ---&gt; System.ComponentModel.Win32Exception (0x80004005): The system cannot find the file specified

So, on this VM, no database gets created and nothing shows up in the SQL Server Object Explorer&#39;s `SQL Server` node.

### What I think to know

- Visual Studio 2015 Community comes with LocalDB; so everything should just work out of the box, but it doesn&#39;t, and I don&#39;t know why
- LocalDB databases are just a pair of files (*.mdf and *.ldf)
- I&#39;ve seen the files being created at the default database location at `C:\Users\&lt;username&gt;\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server Local DB\Instances\MSSQLLocalDB`; but on this VM, there is no such folder
- The `App.config` looked every time like this (and it was automatically created that way when I installed Entity Framework 6 the NuGet Package Manager in Visual Studio):
