I am using Moq version 3.0.204.1 and `SetupSet` does is not marked as obsolete for me. However, there are a couple of `SetupSet` overloads located in `MockLegacyExtensions`. You can avoid using those and use `SetupSet` that is defined on the `Mock` class.

The difference is subtle and you need to use `Action&lt;T&gt;` as `SetupSet` parameter, as opposed to `Func&lt;T, TProperty&gt;`.

The call below will invoke the non-deprecated overload:

    myMock.SetupSet(p =&gt; p.MyProperty = It.IsAny&lt;string&gt;()).Callback&lt;string&gt;(value =&gt; myLocalVariable = value);

The trick is to use `It.IsAny&lt;string&gt;`, which will intercept a setter call with any value.

I&#39;m trying to use [add_custom_command](http://www.cmake.org/cmake/help/v3.0/command/add_custom_command.html) to generate a file during the build. The command never seemed to be run, so I made this test file.

Then there was an UML displaying that SuperDog will inherit Name as well. I have tried but to me it seems that only public members are inherited. At least I could not access Name unless it was declared as public.

*Any* attempt to access a dynamic member seems to output a `RuntimeBinderException` to the debug logs. While I&#39;m aware that first-chance exceptions are not a problem in and of themselves, this does cause some problems for me:

1. I often have the debugger set to &quot;break on exceptions&quot;, as I&#39;m writing WPF apps, and otherwise all exceptions end up getting converted to a `DispatcherUnhandledException`, and all the actual information you want is lost. WPF sucks like that.

2. As soon as I hit any code that&#39;s using `dynamic`, the debug output log becomes fairly useless. All the useful trace lines that I care about get hidden amongst all the useless `RuntimeBinderException`s

Is there any way I can turn this off, or is the `RuntimeBinder` unfortunately just built like that?

**1) Basic .NET Assembly Not Included in ILMerged Assembly**

I&#39;m having trouble using ILMerge in my post-build after upgrading from .NET 3.5/Visual Studio 2008 to .NET 4/Visual Studio 2010.  I have a Solution with several projects whose target framework is set to &quot;.NET Framework 4&quot;.  I use the following ILMerge command to merge the individual project DLLs into a single DLL:

If I leave off specifying the location of the .NET 4 framework directory, I get an &quot;Unresolved assembly reference not allowed: System&quot; error from ILMerge.  If I leave off specifying the location of the MSTest directory, I get an &quot;Unresolved assembly reference not allowed: Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.UnitTestFramework&quot; error.

The ILMerge command above works and produces a DLL.  When I reference that DLL in another .NET 4 C# project, however, and try to use code within it, I get the following warning:

It doesn&#39;t seem like I should have to do that.  Whoever uses my MyILMergedDLL.dll API should not have to add references to whatever libraries it references.  How can I get around this?

**2) TypeLoadException Only When Using Merged Assembly**

**Edit:** beyond this, even if I do add a reference to `System.Xml` in the consumer project that uses MyILMergedDLL.dll, making use of some code in MyILMergedDLL.dll gives this exception:

&gt; System.TypeLoadException: Could not load type &#39;System.Func`2&#39; from assembly &#39;MyILMergedDLL, Version=1.0.1.1, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=...&#39;.

This is the code in my consumer project; the line that caused the `TypeLoadException` is the second one:

Here&#39;s that constructor:

Recently I had an interesting discussion with a colleague about unit tests. We were discussing when maintaining unit tests became less productive, when your contracts change.

Perhaps anyone can enlight me how to approach this problem. Let me elaborate:&lt;br&gt;

So lets say there is a class which does some nifty calculations. The contract says that it should calculate a number, or it returns -1 when it fails for some reason.

I have contract tests who test that. And in all my other tests I stub this nifty calculator thingy.

So now I change the contract, whenever it cannot calculate it will throw a CannotCalculateException. 

My contract tests will fail, and I will fix them accordingly. But, all my mocked/stubbed objects will still use the old contract rules. These tests will succeed, while they should not!

The question that rises, is that with this faith in unit testing, how much faith can be placed in such changes... The unit tests succeed, but bugs will occur when testing the application. The tests using this calculator will need to be fixed, which costs time and may even be stubbed/mocked a lot of times...

How do you think about this case? I never thought about it thourougly. In my opinion, these changes to unit tests would be acceptable. If I do not use unit tests, I would also see such bugs arise within test phase (by testers). Yet I am not confident enough to point out what will cost more time (or less).

Any thoughts?

Unit tests - The benefit from unit tests with contract changes?

I&#39;ve always programmed alone, I&#39;m still a student so I never programmed with anyone else, I haven&#39;t even used a version control system before.

I&#39;m working on a project now that requires knowledge of how programmers work together on a piece of software in a company.

How is the software compiled? Is it from the version control system? Is it by individual programmers? Is it periodic? Is it when someone decides to build or something? Are there any tests that are done to make sure it &quot;works&quot;?

My Django unit tests take a long time to run, so I&#39;m looking for ways to speed that up. I&#39;m considering installing an [SSD][1], but I know that has its downsides too. Of course, there are things I could do with my code, but I&#39;m looking for a structural fix. Even running a single test is slow since the database needs to be rebuilt / south migrated every time. So here&#39;s my idea...

Since I know the test database will always be quite small, why can&#39;t I just configure the system to always keep the entire test database in RAM? Never touch the disk at all. How do I configure this in Django?  I&#39;d prefer to keep using [MySQL][2] since that&#39;s what I use in production, but if [SQLite][3]&amp;nbsp;3 or something else makes this easy, I&#39;d go that way.

Does SQLite or MySQL have an option to run entirely in memory? It should be possible to configure a RAM disk and then configure the test database to store its data there, but I&#39;m not sure how to tell Django / MySQL to use a different data directory for a certain database, especially since it keeps getting erased and recreated each run. (I&#39;m on a Mac FWIW.)

How to run Django&#39;s test database only in memory?

I&#39;m at the point where I need to write unit tests for a REST API written using CakePHP 1.3. The API supports GET, POST and PUT requests for querying and manipulating data.

Is there any established way to test the correct input/output of an API simulating an HTTP request, using **fixtures**? I do not want to run actual POST/PUT requests against the live (dev) database. How can I best mock out the system to use temporary models, yet test the rest of the stack as-is?

Testing GET requests is easy enough with [controller tests][1]. However, for data manipulation the API uses HTTP headers quite extensively and also parses raw XML and JSON POST/PUT data. The controller unit test methods only mock POST data by setting `$this-&gt;data` in the controller, which does not allow me to properly test the API.

I have a ProductRepository with 2 methods, GetAllProducts and GetProductByType, and I want to test the logic at GetProductByType. Internally, GetProductByType makes a call to GetAllProducts and then filters the correct ones.

I&#39;m trying something like the code below but the original GetProductByType is not executed, it is mocked-out as well. In TypeMock I have a CallOriginal method that fixes this, but I can&#39;t figure it out with Moq. Any ideas?

what I want to do is construct a moq for I1 - which is fine ... however in the course of the method that I am testing that uses this mock I need to cast it to I2 in order to access some properties that are not on I1

    Interface I1 
    { int AProperty{get;set;}}

I then have some objects

    Class O1 : I1 {}

and 

    Class O2 : O1 , I2 {}

the problem is that when i have an instance of a I2 implementing object I can cast it to I1 in order to access the methods that are implmented through that interface. In code this is not a problem and everythign works as expected.

The only problem comes when writing a unit test on that class.

The interfaces also expose a method called GetNewInstance which returns an initialised instance of the the implementing object cast into the IGetNewInstance&lt;T&gt; interface ... i can usually mock this fine and make it return itself (and so I keep working with the mock object).

however when you try to cast this returned object of type I2 into I1 a null reference results - this makes sense as the mock object that implements I2 does not inherit from anything that inherits I1.

the question is how can i force the mock object to inherit from both I1 ansd I2 at the same time?
