I needed to have a directly executable python script, so i started the file with `#!/usr/bin/env python`. However, I also need unbuffered output, so i tried `#!/usr/bin/env python -u`, but that fails with `python -u: no such file or directory`.

I found out that `#/usr/bin/python -u` works, but I need it to get the `python` in `PATH` to support virtual `env` environments.

What are my options?

This is simplified. In my implementation the createElement stuff is in a function. I thought about adding something to the function that could check to see if a certain variable was instantiated before returning control. But then there is still the problem of what to do when including js from another site that I have no control over.

I&#39;ve accepted the best answer for now because it gives a good explanation for what&#39;s going on. But if anyone has any suggestions for how to improve this I&#39;m open to them. Here&#39;s an example of what I&#39;d like to do.

As the title says, is it possible to select elements in XPath that only begin with a certain string, but perhaps do not end with the same?
For example there are 3 anchor elements:

I understand that Android `Activities` have specific lifecycles and that `onCreate` should be overridden and used for initialization, but what exactly happens in the constructor? Are there any cases when you could/should override the `Activity` constructor as well, or should you never touch it?

I&#39;m assuming that the constructor should never be used because references to `Activities` aren&#39;t cleaned up entirely (thus hampering the garbage collector) and that `onDestroy` is there for that purpose. Is this correct?

I&#39;m parsing third party log files containing date/time using Joda. The date/time is in one of two different formats, depending on the age of the log files I&#39;m parsing.

Currently I have code like this:

This works but contravenes Joshua Bloch&#39;s advice from Effective Java 2nd Edition (Item 57: Use exceptions only for exceptional conditions). It also makes it hard to determine if an IllegalArgumentException occurs due to a screwed up date/time in a log file.

Can you suggest a nicer approach that doesn&#39;t misuse exceptions?

CSS no text wrap

I just wanted to hear some authorities on when and where you should use a `LITERAL` control over a `LABEL`. 

As I understand it, the difference is this: A `LABEL` can be styled via the `&lt;SPAN&gt;` tags that are added.

I personally find the addition of `&lt;SPAN&gt;` tags in my HTML to be very annoying and never actually apply styles through ASP, and so `LITERAL`s seem to be what should be used most of the time... but I&#39;m concerned there&#39;s *other* considerations or benefits to using a LABEL over it that I&#39;m unaware of.

**Is it 100% fine to replace any `LABEL`s with `LITERAL`s, provided we&#39;re not applying styles to them? Are there NO other considerations?**

I have been stuck on this one for a while - I couldn&#39;t figure out why a website renders differently in two identical versions of Internet Explorer. Half an hour ago I came across a compatibility mode button in IE which made me really angry. 

Disabling compatibility mode has fixed my problem.

Is there a way to disable it programmatically, i.e. from a web page?

I think it’s funny. Okay, granted a tag that is closed and a self-closing tag are not the same. So I would understand if jQuery couldn’t load (although I find it ridiciulous).

But what I do not understand is that jQuery loads but the following, correctly written tag, doesn’t?

Some colleagues and I were comparing past languages we had programmed in and were talking about our experience with **VBScript** with its **odd** features such as **1-based index** instead of 0-based indexes like almost every other language has, the reasoning being that it was a **language for users** (e.g. Excel VBA) instead of a language for developers.

Why do indexes in XPath start with 1 and not 0?

I have an XML from which I have to select the name of the child of one of the nodes. I&#39;m kind of a beginner in this, so I didn&#39;t find the Xpath expression to do it. I know the level of the node

How to use XPath with XElement or LINQ?

I have a small problem with XPath contains with dom4j ...

Let&#39;s say my XML is 

    &lt;Home&gt;
    	&lt;Addr&gt;
    		&lt;Street&gt;ABC&lt;/Street&gt;
    		&lt;Number&gt;5&lt;/Number&gt;
    		&lt;Comment&gt;BLAH BLAH BLAH &lt;br/&gt;&lt;br/&gt;ABC&lt;/Comment&gt;
    	&lt;/Addr&gt;
    &lt;/Home&gt;

Let&#39;s say I want to find all the nodes that have ABC in the text given the root Element...

So the XPath that I would needed to write would be 

`//*[contains(text(),&#39;ABC&#39;)]`

However this is not what dom4j returns .... is this a dom4j problem or my understanding how XPath works, since that query returns only the `Street` element and not the `Comment` element?

The DOM makes the `Comment` element a composite element with four tags two 

    [Text = &#39;XYZ&#39;][BR][BR][Text = &#39;ABC&#39;] 

I would assume that the query should still return the element since it should find the element and run contains on it, but it doesn&#39;t ... 

The following query returns the element, but it returns far more then just the element &amp;ndash; it returns the parent elements as well, which is undesirable to the problem.

    //*[contains(text(),&#39;ABC&#39;)]

Does any one know the XPath query that would return just the elements `&lt;Street/&gt;` and `&lt;Comment/&gt;` ?




XPath contains(text(),&#39;some string&#39;) doesn&#39;t work when used with node with more than one Text subnode

I&#39;m writing a Selenium testcase. And here&#39;s the xpath expression I use to match all &#39;Modify&#39; buttons within a data table.

My question is, how can I visit the matched node sets by index? I&#39;ve tried with 

    //img[@title=&#39;Modify&#39;][i]
and 

    //img[@title=&#39;Modify&#39; and position() = i]
But neither works.. 
I also tried with XPath checker(One firefox extension). There&#39;re totally 13 matches found, then I have totally no idea how am I gonna select one of them.. 
**Or does XPath support specified selection of nodes which are not under same parent node?**
