The `text` type handles `tinytext`, `text`, `mediumtext`, and `longtext` for MySQL, if that&#39;s what you&#39;re using. Just specify the upper bound using `:limit =&gt; ...`

Example:

    change_column :articles, :body, :text, :limit =&gt; 4294967295

The default value of `limit` is 65535, as expected.

    1 to 255 bytes: TINYTEXT
    256 to 65535 bytes: TEXT
    65536 to 16777215 bytes: MEDIUMTEXT
    16777216 to 4294967295 bytes: LONGTEXT

I have started the painful first steps of using emacs to edit an HTML file with both HTML tags and javascript content.   I have installed nxhtml and tried using it - i.e set up to use nxhtml-mumamo-mode for .html files.  But I am not loving it.   When I am editing the Javascript portion of the code the tab indents do not behave as they do when editing C/C++ code.  It starts putting tabs within the line and if you try and hit tab in the white space preceding a line it inserts the tab rather than re-tabifying the line.

Another aspect that I don&#39;t like is that it doesn&#39;t do syntax colouring like the usual C/C++ modes do.  I much prefer the behaviour of the default java-mode when editing HTML files but that doesn&#39;t play nicely with the HTML code. :-(

1) Is there a better mode for editing HTML files with Javascript portions?

2) Is there a way to get nxhtml to use the default java-mode for the javascript portions?

I am using the following to allow my users to select their sex in their profile. 

    &lt;%= f.select (:sex, %w{ Male Female }) %&gt;

How would I create a blank value that the list would default to if nothing has been passed to the user.sex column? I am simply passing male or female as a string. 

The purpose is I want a blank value so a validation can make sure they are aware they have to select it.

The tutorial tells me to do this:

But when I run syncdb, Django creates a bunch of tables. Yes, it creates the south_migrationhistory table, but **it also creates my app&#39;s tables.**

Alright, so fine. I&#39;ll add wall to initial migrations.

    $ py manage.py schemamigration wall --initial

Then I migrate:

    $ py manage.py migrate wall

You know what? It gives me this BS:

    _mysql_exceptions.OperationalError: (1050, &quot;Table &#39;wall_content&#39; already exists&quot;)

How do I get South to work and sync correctly with everything? The only thing I can think of is remove my app from INSTALLED_APPS, then run syncdb, then add it back on.

Why don&#39;t my south migrations work?

If I create a new rails 3 migration with (for example)

    rails g migration tester title:tester user:references

, everything works fine...however if I add a column with something along the lines of:

    rails g migration add_user_to_tester user:references

the reference field is not recognised. In short, the question is: how do I add a referencing column to a rails migration from the command line?

I have a table in a Rails app with hundreds of thousands of records, and they only have a `created_at` timestamp. I&#39;m adding the ability to edit these records, so I want to add an `updated_at` timestamp to the table. In my migration to add the column, I want to update all rows to have the new `updated_at` match the old `created_at`, since that&#39;s the default for newly created rows in Rails. I could do a `find(:all)` and iterate through the records, but that would take hours because of the size of the table. What I really want to do is:

When trying to deliver an email via console I receive this error:

    OpenSSL::SSL::SSLError: hostname was not match with the server certificate

The thing is I really don&#39;t know much about certificates and such, or really how to get started troubleshooting this, I tried to do some investigation with `openssl` and here is the certificate that is returned.

I don&#39;t know if its a problem with Postfix which is running on the server, or my rails app, any help or clues is really appreciated.
