Code like this often happens:

This is really slow if you&#39;re about to append thousands of elements to your list, as the list will have to be constantly resized to fit the new elements.

In Java, you can create an ArrayList with an initial capacity. If you have some idea how big your list will be, this will be a lot more efficient.

I understand that code like this can often be refactored into a list comprehension. If the *for*/*while* loop is very complicated, though, this is unfeasible. Is there an equivalent for us Python programmers?

I want to add some [Ajax][1]-niceness to my Django-coded website. 

In my Django code, I use the `@login_required` decorator from `django.contrib.auth.decorators` to mark which view requires authentication. The default behavior when a not authenticated user clicks it is to redirect him/her to login page, and then pass the target page. 

What I saw on some sites, and really liked, is that when user clicks a link leading to a place restricted to logged-only users, instead of getting redirected to a login page, he/she gets a popup window (via JavaScript) asking him/her to log in or register. There&#39;s no redirection part, so no need for a user to use the &quot;back&quot; key if he/she decides he/she really doesn&#39;t like the website enough to waste the time registering.

So, the qestion is:  how would you manage the task of automatically marking some links as &quot;restricted&quot; so JavaScript can handle their `onclick` event and display a &quot;please log in&quot; popup?

Python Decimal doesn&#39;t support being constructed from float; it expects that you have to convert float to a string first.  

This is very inconvenient since standard string formatters for float require that you specify number of decimal places rather than significant places.  So if you have a number that could have as many as 15 decimal places you need to format as `Decimal(&quot;%.15f&quot; % my_float)`, which will give you garbage at the 15th decimal place if you also have any significant digits before decimal (`Decimal(&quot;%.15f&quot; % 100000.3) == Decimal(&#39;100000.300000000002910&#39;)`).

Can someone suggest a good way to convert from float to Decimal preserving value as the user has entered, perhaps limiting number of significant digits that can be supported?

**How can I verify a Google authentication access token?**

**I need to somehow query Google and ask: Is [given access token] valid for the [example@example.com] Google account?**

## Short version

It&#39;s clear how an access token supplied through the [Google Authentication Api :: OAuth Authentication for Web Applications][1] can be used to then request data from a range of Google services. It is not clear how to check if a given access token is valid for a given Google account. I&#39;d like to know how.

## Long version
I&#39;m developing an API that uses token-based authentication. A token will be returned upon provision of a valid username+password or upon provision of a third-party token from any one of &lt;i&gt;N&lt;/i&gt; verifiable services.

One of the third-party services will be Google, allowing a user to authenticate against my service using their Google account. This will later be extended to include Yahoo accounts, trusted OpenID providers and so on.

The &#39;API&#39; entity is under my full control. The &#39;public interface&#39; entity is any web- or desktop-based app. Some public interfaces are under my control, others will not be and others still I may never even know about.

Therefore I cannot trust the token supplied to the API in step 3. This will be supplied along with the corresponding Google account email address.

I need to somehow query Google and ask: *Is this access token valid for example@example.com*?

In this case, example@example.com is the Google account unique identifier - the email address someone uses to log in to their Google account. This cannot be assumed to be a Gmail address - someone can have a Google account without having a Gmail account.

The Google documentation clearly states how, with an access token, data can be retrieved from a number of Google services. Nothing seems to state how you can check if a given access token is valid in the first place.

**Update**
The token is valid for N Google services. I can&#39;t try a token against a Google service as means of verifying it as I won&#39;t know which subset of all Google&#39;s services a given user actually uses.

Furthermore, I&#39;ll never be using the Google authentication access token to access any Google services, merely as a means of verifying a supposed Google user actually is who they say they are. If there is another way of doing this I&#39;m happy to try.

How can I verify a Google authentication API access token?

I&#39;ve been using python for years, but I have little experience with python web programming. I&#39;d like to create a very simple web service that exposes some functionality from an existing python script for use within my company. It will likely return the results in csv. What&#39;s the quickest way to get something up? If it affects your suggestion, I will likely be adding more functionality to this, down the road.

I am learning about SOAP implementation and have become somewhat confused regarding the appropriate namespace URI for a SOAP 1.2 Envelope.  

The [w3c specification for SOAP][1] refers to the `&quot;http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-envelope&quot;` namespace.  However, I have seen other examples that refer to the `&quot;http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/&quot;` namespace.  

It seems to me that one or the other namespace should be used.  Which of these two is the correct namespace URI to use?

I am confused about SOAP namespaces

I&#39;ve set up a SOAP WebServiceProvider in JAX-WS, but I&#39;m having trouble figuring out how to get the raw XML from a SOAPMessage (or any Node) object.  Here&#39;s a sample of the code I&#39;ve got right now, and where I&#39;m trying to grab the XML:

Getting Raw XML From SOAPMessage in Java

I need to get unmanaged Windows C++ clients to talk to a WCF service. C++ clients could be running on Win2000 and later. I have a control over both WCF service and which C++ API is being used. Since it&#39;s for a proprietary application, it is preferable to use Microsoft stuff where possible, definitely not GNU licensed APIs. Those of you who have it working, can you share a step-by-step process how to make it working?

I have researched following options so far:

- WWSAPI - not good, will not work on Win 2000 clients.
- ATL Server, used [following guide][1] as a reference. I followed the steps outlined (remove policy refs and flatten WSDL), however the resulting WSDL is still not usable by sproxy

Any more ideas? Please answer only if you actually have it working yourself.

***Edit1***: I apologize for anyone who I might have confused: what I was looking for was a way to call WCF service from client(s) where no .NET framework is installed, so using .NET-based helper library is not an option, it must be pure unmanaged C++
