**Your `svn merge` syntax is wrong.**

You want to checkout a working copy of `trunk` and then use the **`svn merge --reintegrate`** option:

    $ pwd
    /home/user/project-trunk
    
    $ svn update  # (make sure the working copy is up to date)
    At revision &lt;N&gt;.
    
    $ svn merge --reintegrate ^/project/branches/branch_1
    --- Merging differences between repository URLs into &#39;.&#39;:
    U    foo.c
    U    bar.c
     U   .
    
    $ # build, test, verify, ...
    
    $ svn commit -m &quot;Merge branch_1 back into trunk!&quot;
    Sending        .
    Sending        foo.c
    Sending        bar.c
    Transmitting file data ..
    Committed revision &lt;N+1&gt;.

If your working directory points to the trunk, then you should be able to merge your branch with:

    svn merge https://HOST/repository/branches/branch_1

be sure to be to issue this command in the root directory of your trunk

Do an svn update in the trunk, note the revision number.

From the trunk:

    svn merge -r&lt;revision where branch was cut&gt;:&lt;revision of trunk&gt; svn://path/to/branch/branchName

You can check where the branch was cut from the trunk by doing an svn log


    svn log --stop-on-copy



The syntax is wrong, it should instead be

    svn merge &lt;what(the range)&gt; &lt;from(your dev branch)&gt; &lt;to(trunk/trunk local copy)&gt;

I'm facing a peculiar problem with SVN <code>merge</code>. I want to merge from a dev branch to trunk.
We have multiple dev branches cut off the trunk at the same time.
I'm merging one of those branches to trunk with this command:

I found a lot of examples on how to change the username for specific revisions and so on.

But what I need is this:
I did a checkout with the authentication credentials of a workmate and need to change it to my credentials for future commits.

I cannot just checkout with my credentials due to the many changes that have been done already...

Anyone familiar with this?

When performing a &#39;svn merge&#39; from my development team&#39;s trunk into a branch, we occasionally experience merge conflicts that produce files with suffix names: `*.merge-right.r5004`, `*.merge-left.r4521` and `*.working`.  I&#39;ve searched throughout Subversions&#39;s documentation but their explanation hasn&#39;t been much use.  I&#39;ve gathered the following:

 - *.merge-right.r5004 = trunk version   
 - *.merge-left.r4521  = ?  
 - *.working           = branch version

I can&#39;t seem to figure out what `merge-left.r4521` is.  And if the answer is that its simply an older version of the file from branch, then why 4521?

I cannot do a SVN commit. I get this error:

If I want to throw away all of my changes, and return to the code that is on the repository, I do the following:

    $ rm -fr *
    $ svn up

This is easy enough, but I&#39;m wondering if there is a single command that will accomplish this, something like:

    $ svn revert-all

Does svn have a `revert-all` command?

Is it possible to tell git to remove untracked files? Mainly something that is similar to a reset?

example:

    git checkout -- index.php &lt;-- revert my file
    git checkout -- master &lt;-- this would revert the entire repo back to the last commit on master, removing (deleting) any and all untracked files as well as reverting committed ones.

I am planning to use Git for writing my thesis with Latex. As Git is specifically designed for software development, would it be feasible for my requirements? If it is a good choice for me, then what special and unique features are available in Git which are ideal for writing a thesis. Merge data frames based on rownames in R

I have a list of many data.frames that I want to merge. The issue here is that each data.frame differs in terms of the number of rows and columns, but they all share the key variables (which I&#39;ve called `&quot;var1&quot;` and `&quot;var2&quot;` in the code below). If the data.frames were identical in terms of columns, I could merely `rbind`, for which plyr&#39;s [rbind.fill](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/2851327/r-converting-a-list-of-data-frames-into-one-data-frame) would do the job, but that&#39;s not the case with these data. 

Because the `merge` command only works on 2 data.frames, I turned to the Internet for ideas. I got this one from [here](http://www.mail-archive.com/r-help@r-project.org/msg46572.html), which worked perfectly in R 2.7.2, which is what I had at the time:

    merge.rec &lt;- function(.list, ...){
        if(length(.list)==1) return(.list[[1]])
        Recall(c(list(merge(.list[[1]], .list[[2]], ...)), .list[-(1:2)]), ...)
    }

And I would call the function like so:

    df &lt;- merge.rec(my.list, by.x = c(&quot;var1&quot;, &quot;var2&quot;), 
                    by.y = c(&quot;var1&quot;, &quot;var2&quot;), all = T, suffixes=c(&quot;&quot;, &quot;&quot;))

But in any R version after 2.7.2, including 2.11 and 2.12, this code fails with the following error:

    Error in match.names(clabs, names(xi)) : 
      names do not match previous names

(Incidently, I see other references to this error [elsewhere](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/2504543/merge-multiple-data-frames-error-in-match-namesclabs-namesxi-names-do-n) with no resolution).

Is there a way to merge XCode 4.2 Storyboard files? 

I&#39;m working with another developer on an iPhone project and all my attempts at merging changes into a storyboard file have met with failure and after which Xcode is no longer able to load the storyboard. Consequently I have to do an svn revert and then redo my modifications.

So far, my preference has been to always use EntityManager&#39;s `merge()` take care of both insert and update. But I have also noticed that merge performs an additional select queries before update/insert to ensure record does not already exists in the database.

Now that I am working on a project requiring extensive (bulk) inserts to the database. From a performance point of view does it make sense to use persist instead of merge in a scenario where I absolutely know that I am always creating a new instance of objects to be persisted?

I&#39;m trying to review the code changes made on a branch while ignoring the ones we made on other branches that were merged in.  I know it&#39;s damn near impossible to show a diff in that fashion, but I&#39;d like to be able to find out which commits I need to review.
