To solve your problem you should try this piece of code:

I&#39;m currently working on a Java project that is emitting the following warning when I compile:

    /src/com/myco/apps/AppDBCore.java:439: warning: unmappable character for encoding UTF8

I&#39;m not sure how SO will render the character before the date, but it should be a copyright symbol, and is displayed in the warning as a question mark in a diamond.

It&#39;s worth noting that the character appears in the output artifact correctly, but the warnings are a nuisance and the file containing this class may one day be touched by a text editor that saves the encoding incorrectly...

How can I inject this character into the &quot;copyright&quot; string so that the compiler is happy, and the symbol is preserved in the file without potential re-encoding issues?

I have a class that offers up a few events. That class is declared globally but not instanced upon that global declaration--it&#39;s instanced on an as-needed basis in the methods that need it. 

Each time that class is needed in a method, it is instanced and event handlers are registered. Is it necessary to remove the event handlers explicitly before the method goes out of scope? 

When the method goes out of scope, so goes the instance of the class. Does leaving event handlers registered with that instance that is going out of scope have a memory footprint implication? (I&#39;m wondering if the event handler keeps the GC from seeing the class instance as no longer being referenced.)

This is what I&#39;ve come up with as a method on a class inherited by many of my other classes. The idea is that it allows the simple comparison between properties of Objects of the same Type.

Now, this does work - but in the interest of improving the quality of my code I thought I&#39;d throw it out for scrutiny. How can it be better/more efficient/etc.?

Obfuscation is one way, but it can&#39;t protect from breaking the piracy protection security of the application. How do I make sure that the application is not tampered with, and how do I make sure that the registration mechanism can&#39;t be reverse engineered?

Also it is possible to convert a C# application to native code, and [Xenocode][1] is too costly.

C# provides lot of features, and is the ideal language for my code, so writing the whole codebase again in C++ is out of the question.

Secure certificates can be easily removed from the signed assemblies in .NET.

I was playing around with the Datetime.ParseExact method, and it wants an IFormatProvider...

It works inputting null, but what exactly does it do?

I got an `Int16` value, from the database, and need to convert this to an enum type. This is unfortunately done in a layer of the code that knows very little about the objects except for what it can gather through reflection.

As such, it ends up calling `Convert.ChangeType` which fails with an invalid cast exception.

I found what I consider a smelly workaround, like this:

    String name = Enum.GetName(destinationType, value);
    Object enumValue = Enum.Parse(destinationType, name, false);

Is there a better way, so that I don&#39;t have to move through this String operation?

Convert.ChangeType and converting to enums?

I am running Django, FastCGI, and Nginx.  I am creating an api of sorts that where someone can send some data via XML which I will process and then return some status codes for each node that was sent over.

The problem is that Nginx will throw a 504 Gateway Time-out if I take too long to process the XML -- I think longer than 60 seconds.

So I would like to set up Nginx so that if any requests matching the location /api will not time out for 120 seconds.  What setting will accomplish that.

What I have so far is:

I have two applications one a console application and the other an ASP.NET app. They both need to know the same appSettings and connectionStrings. So ideally I would like to use the configSource property of app.config/web.config files to point that to a central location. For example

	&lt;appSettings configSource=&quot;D:\appSettings.config&quot;/&gt;

That however fails with an error:  

&gt; The configSource attribute is invalid.: The configSource &#39;D:\\appSettings.config&#39; is invalid. It must refer to a file in the same directory or in a subdirectory as the configuration file.

Is there anyway to still use the configuration managers appSettings/connectionStrings and get the values from an external location?  
I&#39;m happy with having to add code to do it, but I don&#39;t want to have to replace the entire configuration manager system.
