I believe the pylab magic was removed when they transitioned from IPython to a more general Jupyter notebook.

Try:

    %matplotlib inline

Also when you get a message like:

    &quot;matplotlib.axes._subplots.AxesSubplot at 0xebf8b70&quot;.

That&#39;s just IPython displaying the object.  You need to specify IPython display it.  Hence the matplotlib inline magic.


I have revealing module pattern which looks like this:

What I&#39;m having trouble with is integrating a $watch into this. Specifically watching for window resize, with the &#39;$window&#39; service.

I am trying to modify a DataFrame `df` to only contain rows for which the values in the column `closing_price` are between 99 and 101 and trying to do this with the code below. 

However, I get the error

Give column name when read csv file pandas

I have the following for loop:

    for i in links:
         data = urllib2.urlopen(str(i)).read()
         data = json.loads(data)
         data = pd.DataFrame(data.items())
         data = data.transpose()
         data.columns = data.iloc[0]
         data = data.drop(data.index[[0]])
         
Each dataframe so created has most columns in common with the others but not all of them. Moreover, they all have just one row. What I need to to is to add to the dataframe all the distinct columns and each row from each dataframe produced by the for loop

I tried pandas concatenate or similar but nothing seemed to work. Any idea? Thanks.

I am importing a CSV file like the one below, using `pandas.read_csv`:

Example of CSV file:

The problem is that when I later on in my code try to use these values I get this error: `TypeError: can&#39;t multiply sequence by non-int of type &#39;float&#39;` 

**The error is because the number I&#39;m trying to use is not written with a dot (`.`) as a decimal separator but a comma(`,`)**. After manually changing the commas to a dots my program works.

I can&#39;t change the format of my input, and thus have to replace the commas in my DataFrame in order for my code to work, and I want python to do this without the need of doing it manually. Do you have any suggestions?

I&#39;ve recently stopped using `macports` so the kernel.json files I had for various IPython kernels are out of date. I have renamed `~/.ipython` and removed `~/.jupyter` but kernels launched are failing to start with `file not found` errors.

More tellingly, when I run `jupyter-kernelspec list` it still lists all the old kernels I had set up. Where is it getting this information from and what do I need to do to refresh/remove its cache?

However, I have function calls across multiple cells.

What I tried:     
     
1. I tried to set `%debug` in the first line of cell-1. But it enter into debug mode immediately, even before executing cell-2.  
   
2. I tried to add `%debug` in the line right before the code `return do_some_thing_about(b)`. But then the code runs forever, never stops.


What is the right way to set a break point within the ipython notebook?

I am using a Python script obtained from converting the IPython Notebook **00-classification.ipynb** for testing the classification by a trained model for ImageNet. NameError: name &#39;get_ipython&#39; is not defined

I would like to get the time spent on the cell execution in addition to the original output from cell.

To this end, I tried `%%timeit -r1 -n1` but it doesn&#39;t expose the variable defined within cell.

`%%time` works for cell which only contains 1 statement.

    In[1]: %%time
           1
    CPU times: user 4 &#181;s, sys: 0 ns, total: 4 &#181;s
    Wall time: 5.96 &#181;s
    Out[1]: 1

    In[2]: %%time
           # Notice there is no out result in this case.
           x = 1
           x
    CPU times: user 3 &#181;s, sys: 0 ns, total: 3 &#181;s
    Wall time: 5.96 &#181;s

What&#39;s the best way to do it?

As of now, [this](https://stackoverflow.com/a/66663966/213525) is the correct answer. Essentially, `%%time` and `%%timeit` both now work as one would expect.

Simple way to measure cell execution time in ipython notebook

When I run:

    sudo pip install ipython

I get the following error

&gt; OSError: [Errno: 1] Operation not permitted: &#39;/System/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.7/share&#39;

The last command executed tries to create the directory given above.

Also, the following command fails to install iPython without providing any errors.

    sudo pip install --user python

(I am on Mac OS X El Capitan in case other folks on this OS see the same issue.)
