The field that you have to change is the `Bundle Display Name` (`CFBundleDisplayName` is the raw key name) in the `info.plist` file from `${PRODUCT_NAME}` to &#39;your desired name&#39;.

Note: `CFBundleDisplayName` is different from `CFBundleName`. `CFBundleDisplayName ` is the human visible/marketing name displayed on the device home screen, under the icon etc. While `CFBundleName` is the filename of the IPA and the folder for the app on the file system, &#39;Whatever&#39; for example would be archived as `Whatever.ipa` and the app would be installed on a device under the folder called `Whatever.app`.

I&#39;m using Xcode 6 and in the Info.plist, the key is called Bundle Name and the default is $(PRODUCT_NAME).  You can double click and change the name, you&#39;ll be able to verify it.

If you view the source code for the plist, you&#39;ll see:

    &lt;key&gt;CFBundleName&lt;/key&gt;
    &lt;string&gt;Change this to the string to display under the icon&lt;/string&gt;

There should really be a caveat here. If you have shell scripts and other things dependent on the original app name, you may be committed to some extensive changes if you pursue the above solution. If you only want to change the display name, and only that, there&#39;s a Bundle display name under Info of your target under Custom iOS Target Properties.

I&#39;m trying to group by multiple columns here - one on each table.  
It&#39;s a scenario where I want to find the top portfolio value for each client by adding their current portfolio and cash together but a client may have more than one portfolio, so I need the top portfolio for each client.

At the moment, with the code below I&#39;m getting the same clients multiple times for each of their top portfolios (it&#39;s not grouping by client id).

iPhone XCode - How to change title below app icon

Normally you would use the `cellForRowAtIndexPath` delegate method to setup your cell. The information set for the cell is important for how the cell is drawn and what the size will be.

Unfortunatly the `heightForRowAtIndexPath` delegate method is called before the `cellForRowAtIndexPath` delegate method so we can&#39;t simply tell the delegate to return the height of the cell, since this will be zero at that time.

So we need to calculate the size before the cell is drawn in the table. Luckily there is a method that does just that, `sizeWithFont`, which belongs to the NSString class. However there is problem, in order to calculate the correct size dynamically it needs to know how the elements in the cell will be presented. I will make this clear in an example:

Imagine a `UITableViewCell`, which contains a label named `textLabel`. Within the `cellForRowAtIndexPath` delegate method we place `textLabel.numberOfLines = 0`, which basically tells the label it can have as many lines as it needs to present the text for a specific width. The problem occurs if we give textLabel a text larger then the width originally given to textLabel. The second line will appear, but the height of the cell will not be automatically adjusted and so we get a messed up looking table view.

As said earlier, we can use `sizeWithFont` to calculate the height, but it needs to know which Font is used, for what width, etc. If, for simplicity reasons, we just care about the width, we could hardcode that the width would be around 320.0 (not taking padding in consideration). But what would happen if we used UITableViewStyleGrouped instead of plain the width would then be around 300.0 and the cell would again be messed up. Or what happends if we swap from portrait to landscape, we have much more space, yet it won&#39;t be used since we hardcoded 300.0.

This is the case in which at some point you have to ask yourself the question how much can you avoid hardcoding.


My Own Thoughts
----------
You could call the `cellForRowAtIndexPath` method that belongs to the UITableView class to get the cell for a certain section and row. I read a couple of posts that said you don&#39;t want to do that, but I don&#39;t really understand that. Yes, I agree it will already allocate the cell, but the `heightForRowAtIndexPath` delegate method is only called for the cells that will be visible so the cell will be allocated anyway. If you properly use the `dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier` the cell will not be allocated again in the `cellForRowAtIndexPath` method, instead a pointer is used and the properties are just adjusted. Then what&#39;s the problem? 

Note that the cell is NOT drawn within the `cellForRowAtIndexPath` delegate method, when the table view cell becomes visible the script will call the `setNeedDisplay` method on the UITableVieCell which triggers the `drawRect` method to draw the cell. So calling the `cellForRowAtIndexPath` delegate directly will not lose performance because it needs to be drawn twice.

Okay so by calling the `cellForRowAtIndexPath` delegate method within the `heightForRowAtIndexPath` delegate method we receive all the information we need about the cell to determine it&#39;s size. 

Perhaps you can create your own `sizeForCell` method that runs through all the options, what if the cell is in Value1 style, or Value2, etc.

Conclusion/Question
----------
It&#39;s just a theory I described in my thoughts, I would like to know if what I wrote is correct. Or that maybe there is another way to accomplish the same thing. Note that I want to be able to do things as flexible as possible.

I have some questions about synthesized properties in Objective-C. The full list follows, but the basic question is this: **How does the compiler ensure that the ivars for synthesized properties are properly released, even though my code may or may not include release methods in dealloc?**

so far, through playing around with the parameters I have only been able to get two different errors neither of which are listed at the bottom of the Audio Converter reference.

they are &#39;mrep&#39; and &#39;?tmf&#39; (casting the OSStatus to a char array) but the specific codes aren&#39;t really the point.

as far as I can tell, random error codes are defined in random files, so you can&#39;t just search one file, I can&#39;t find a help document that just lets you search for an error code to get more info, and from what I can tell, in OS X you can use GetMacOSStatusErrorString() to convert an error to something useful, but there is no iPhone equivalent?

any help would be greatly appreciated.

ok, so casting them gives them in reverse (something I checked for &#39;mrep&#39; but was not there either way round) , fmt? is in the list for the Audio Converter api, and is pretty self explanatory if a bit vague, but fair enough, still &#39;perm&#39; isn&#39;t there (although it might be something to do with the simulator not supporting aac decoding) and my general question still stands.


How do you convert an iPhone OSStatus code to something useful?

I want to do some drawing of NSAttributedStrings in fixed-width boxes, but am having trouble calculating the right height they&#39;ll take up when drawn. So far, I&#39;ve tried:

1. Calling &lt;code&gt;- (NSSize) size&lt;/code&gt;, but the results are useless (for this purpose), as they&#39;ll give whatever width the string desires.

2. Calling &lt;code&gt;- (void)drawWithRect:(NSRect)rect options:(NSStringDrawingOptions)options&lt;/code&gt; with a rect shaped to the width I want and &lt;code&gt;NSStringDrawingUsesLineFragmentOrigin&lt;/code&gt; in the options, exactly as I&#39;m using in my drawing. The results are ... difficult to understand; certainly not what I&#39;m looking for. (As is pointed out in a number of places, including &lt;A HREF=&quot;http://lists.apple.com/archives/cocoa-dev/2006/Apr/msg01540.html&quot;&gt;this&lt;/a&gt; Cocoa-Dev thread).

3. Creating a temporary NSTextView and doing:

When I query the frame of tmpView, the width is still as desired, and the height is often correct ... until I get to longer strings, when it&#39;s often half the size that&#39;s required. (There doesn&#39;t seem to be a max size being hit: one frame will be 273.0 high (about 300 too short), the other will be 478.0 (only 60-ish too short)).

I&#39;d appreciate any pointers, if anyone else has managed this.




How to get height for NSAttributedString at a fixed width

I am learning iOS development in Objective-C, and I have found a lot of code examples.

Some of them, though, say that they are only for Mac OS X (not iOS).

Can someone please explain to me what is the difference between Cocoa and Cocoa Touch (at a library level), so that I know what code will work and what will not work?

First, I spent a long time investigating [NSFont fontWithName:size:].  I figured that maybe the user&#39;s fonts were screwed up somehow, so that [NSFont fontWithName:size:] was requesting something non-existent and failing for that reason.  I added a bunch of code using [[NSFontManager sharedFontManager] availableFontNamesWithTraits:NSItalicFontMask] to check for font availability in advance.  Sadly, these changes didn&#39;t fix the problem.

I&#39;ve now noticed that I forgot to remove some debugging breakpoints, including _NSLockError, [NSException raise], and objc_exception_throw.  However, the app was definitely built using &quot;Release&quot; as the active build configuration.  I assume that using the &quot;Release&quot; configuration prevents setting of any breakpoints--but then again I am not sure exactly how breakpoints work or whether the program needs to be run from within gdb for breakpoints to have any effect.

My questions are: could my having left the breakpoints set be the cause of the crashes observed by the user?  If so, why would the breakpoints cause a problem only for this one user?  If not, has anybody else had similar problems with [NSFont fontWithName:size:]?

I will probably just try removing the breakpoints and sending back to the user, but I&#39;m not sure how much currency I have left with that user.  And I&#39;d like to understand more generally whether leaving the breakpoints set could possibly cause a problem (when the app is built using &quot;Release&quot; configuration).

I&#39;m looking for a keyboard only shortcut for *Jump to Definition*. The built-in shortcut requires the mouse: &lt;kbd&gt;⌘&lt;/kbd&gt; + *Double click*.

I&#39;ve tried to add a regular keyboard shorcut for the *Edit&gt;Find&gt;Jump to Defintion* menu command, but, alas, it will only work when the method name is selected. I&#39;d like to be able to position the cursor within the method name, class name, or other symbol, and hit something like &lt;kbd&gt;⌘&lt;/kbd&gt;+&lt;kbd&gt;Shift&lt;/kbd&gt;+&lt;kbd&gt;L&lt;/kbd&gt;.

Does anyone know of a solution, perhaps using a script, for the problem?

*Update*: The keyboard shortcut works sometimes and sometimes not. When I position the text cursor on a method call with no parameters and press &lt;kbd&gt;⌘&lt;/kbd&gt;+&lt;kbd&gt;Shift&lt;/kbd&gt;+&lt;kbd&gt;L&lt;/kbd&gt; it takes me to the definition. But it doesn&#39;t work for a method that takes an `id` parameter. However it works if the parameter is an `int`.

Running `xcodebuild` from the console will bring you very verbose output and I wasn&#39;t able to locate any options for limit its output in order to display only warnings and errors.

I&#39;m looking for a way to capture the `xcodebuild` output and filter it. It would prefer a Python solution that will work with pipes but I&#39;m open to other approaches as long they are command line based solutions.

Are any tools that are already able to do this?
