I have a ListView with an edit text and a button below it. When I click on a listView item the keyboard appears and push up the edit text and the button. I want the list to scroll to the selected item. Any idea? Thanks

I&#39;m trying to pass a parameter in the onclick event. Below is a sample code:

However whenever I click on any of the links the alert always shows &#39;Link 10 clicked&#39;!

Can anyone tell me what I&#39;m doing wrong?

Whenever I want to do something &quot;map&quot;py in R, I usually try to use a function in the `apply` family. 

However, I&#39;ve never quite understood the differences between them -- how {`sapply`, `lapply`, etc.} apply the function to the input/grouped input, what the output will look like, or even what the input can be -- so I often just go through them all until I get what I want.

Can someone explain how to use which one when?

My current (probably incorrect/incomplete) understanding is...

1. `sapply(vec, f)`: input is a vector. output is a vector/matrix, where element `i` is `f(vec[i])`, giving you a matrix if `f` has a multi-element output

2. `lapply(vec, f)`: same as `sapply`, but output is a list?
3. `apply(matrix, 1/2, f)`: input is a matrix. output is a vector, where element `i` is f(row/col i of the matrix)
4. `tapply(vector, grouping, f)`: output is a matrix/array, where an element in the matrix/array is the value of `f` at a grouping `g` of the vector, and `g` gets pushed to the row/col names
5. `by(dataframe, grouping, f)`: let `g` be a grouping. apply `f` to each column of the group/dataframe. pretty print the grouping and the value of `f` at each column.
6. `aggregate(matrix, grouping, f)`: similar to `by`, but instead of pretty printing the output, aggregate sticks everything into a dataframe.

Side question: I still haven&#39;t learned plyr or reshape -- would `plyr` or `reshape` replace all of these entirely?

Grouping functions (tapply, by, aggregate) and the *apply family

I am using R and I have two data frames: carrots and cucumbers. Each data frame has a single numeric column that lists the length of all measured carrots (total: 100k carrots) and cucumbers (total: 50k cucumbers).

I wish to plot two histograms - carrot length and cucumbers lengths - on the same plot. They overlap, so I guess I also need some transparency. I also need to use relative frequencies not absolute numbers since the number of instances in each group is different. 

Something like this would be nice but I don&#39;t understand how to create it from my two tables:

Gantt charts with R

I have a dataframe and would like to calculate the [correlation][1] (with Spearman, data is categorical and ranked) but only for a subset of columns. I tried with all, but R&#39;s [cor][2]() function only accepts numerical data (x must be numeric, says the error message), even if Spearman is used.

One brute approach is to delete the non-numerical columns from the dataframe. This is not as elegant, for speed I still don&#39;t want to calculate correlations between *all* columns. 

I hope there is a way to simply say &quot;calculate correlations for columns x, y, z&quot;. Column references could by number or by name. I suppose the flexible way to provide them would be through a vector.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Calculate correlation with cor(), only for numerical columns

I program regularly in R in a professional context, and I write packages for clients or co-workers as well. Some of the programmers here have a Java background and insist on doing everything the object-oriented way, using S4 methods. My experience on the other hand is that S4 implementations often perform worse and cause a lot more headache when trying to get the code do what you want it to do. 

I definitely agree that in some cases, you have to be able to construct complex objects or append existing objects in a controlled manner. But most of the time, S4 implementations can easily be done using classic lists as well, without all the hassle like defining standardGeneric, methods, constructors, initializers and the likes.

When do you consider writing S4 implementations for R?

EDIT : For clarity, I do appreciate the answers and the discussion about OO in general in R. OOP can be done in numerous ways in R, but my question is really aimed at the added value of using S4 methods specifically.
