I&#39;m not very experienced with Maven in combination with Android yet, so I followed [these][1] instructions to make a new Android project. When the project has been created, I get the following error message:

When I try to add a new source folder with New-&gt;Other-&gt;Java-Source Folder with src/test/java, I get another error message:

&gt;  The folder is already a source folder.

But I don&#39;t have any src/test/java folder in my project. How should I deal with that? What&#39;s the clean way to setup the project, because I assume that there is something missing in this instruction. So what is the Maven way to let src/test/java appear?

I&#39;m new in using GenericForeignKey, and I couldn&#39;t make it to work in a query statement. The tables are roughly like the following:

which doesn&#39;t work. Then I tried this:

This happens often but not every time. It seems like once some other resources are cached, a page refresh will load the LeftPane.aspx. And what&#39;s really odd is this only happens in Google Chrome, not Internet Explorer 8. Any ideas why Chrome would cancel a request?

My tendency is to use GET when the state of the system (my application or website) may not be affected (like a product listing) and to use POST when it is affected (like placing an order). Aren&#39;t those two always sufficient, or am I missing something?

We have a website where the *only* way to login and authenticate yourself with the site is with Facebook (this was not my choice). The first time you login with Facebook, an account gets automatically created for you.

We now want to create an iPhone application for our site and also a public API for others to use our service.

This question is about how to authenticate with our website from the app/API and is broken into 2 parts:

1. What is the correct way to handle REST authentication from an API to a website which only uses Facebook OAuth as an authentication method?

 I have read and researched a lot about standard methods of authentication for REST API. We can&#39;t use such methods as [Basic Auth over HTTPS][1], as there are no credentials for a user as such. Something like [this][2] seems to be only for authenticating applications using the API.

 Currently, the best way I can think is you hit an /authorize end-point on our API, it redirects to Facebook OAuth, then redirects back to the site and provides a &#39;token&#39; which the user of the API can use to authenticate subsequent requests.

2. For an official application that we create, we wouldn&#39;t necessarily need to use the public API in the same way. What would be the best way then to talk to our website and authenticate users?

I understand (I think) how to authenticate 3rd-party applications that are using our API, using API (public) keys and secret (private) keys. However, when it comes to authenticating the user who is using the app, I am getting rather confused about how to go about it when the only way we have to authenticate a user is Facebook.

I feel like I&#39;m missing something very obvious, or don&#39;t fully understand how public REST APIs should work, so any advice and help would be greatly appreciated.

REST API for website which uses Facebook for authentication

I would like to write an automated testing suite for a REST API. As we complete new services, we&#39;d like to check to make sure all the previously created services are working as expected. Any suggestions on the best tools to use to accomplish this? I know tools like Apigee exist that allow you to test 1 service at a time, but we&#39;d like for a way to test all services with the click of a button.

My API method should return a JSON list of product via `/products/index`. However, there are potentially thousands of products, and I want to page through them, so my request should look something like this:

Pagination response payload from a RESTful API

I&#39;ve just started to develop REST services, but I&#39;ve come across a difficult situation: sending files from my REST service to my client. So far I&#39;ve gotten the hang of how to send simple data types (strings, integers, etc) but sending a file is a different matter since there are so many file formats that I don&#39;t know where I should even begin. My REST service is made on Java and I&#39;m using Jersey, I&#39;m sending all the data using the JSON format.

I&#39;ve read about base64 encoding, some people say it&#39;s a good technique, others say it isn&#39;t because of file size issues. What is the correct way? This is how a simple resource class in my project is looking:

I have a single page web app developed using ASP.NET.  I recently converted many of the web methods to be push based, using the [SignalR](http://signalr.net/) library.  This really sped up the page considerably and reduced a lot of the server calls from the page.

At the same time, I&#39;ve also been looking at the RESTful ASP.NET WebAPI for some of the server-side methods, with the real beauty being that it allows to create an API for external applications at the same time that I develop the core application (which will be important for what I&#39;m doing).  

It seems however, after looking at several articles and [these](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/11427573/is-it-possible-to-create-simple-rest-services-with-signalr) [two](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/11646918/turn-by-turn-game-use-signalr-or-both-signalr-and-rest-api) questions, that push and WebAPI methods seem like two entirely different paradigms for client-server communication.  I&#39;m sure that I can create various methods that can be accessed via either protocol, but I&#39;m uncertain if there are pitfalls to this or if this is considered sloppy -- maybe there&#39;s a more elegant way to achieve what I&#39;m aiming for.  

There are certainly situations in which I want the RESTful WebAPI to broadcast events via a SignalR hub... The opposite (SignalR ever needing to access the WebAPI) seems less likely, but I suppose still possible.

Has anyone done this? Does anyone have any advice or tips on how to proceed?  What would be the most elegant way forward here?

I know the problem appears when loading a file from a server or through ajax which most often depends on wrong headers being set.

The weird thing is that I get this warning even though it is run from a local folder: `file:///C:/test/foo.html`

This happens only in Chrome with the most basic html there is:

Correct MIME Type for favicon.ico?

I&#180;m trying to share a `.txt` file with share intent. If I set &quot;text/plain&quot; as mime type, it reads the content like text not like text file, then the options given in the share menu are Whatsapp, Line, etc..

Does anybody know how to configure the share intent so that the share options are only the programs that are able to send a `.txt` file (Gmail, Dropbox, etc.. but not Whatsapp..)? Thanks

Throw HttpResponseException or return Request.CreateErrorResponse?

Is it a normal occurrence for an **HTTP GET Request** to have a response with status code `204 - No Content`? Like, is this semantically correct concerning what an HTTP GET is supposed to accomplish? I know that a `204 - No Content` is *okay* for an **HTTP POST-Request**. For GET request, if no data is to be sent back, is the 204 status code appropriate? Should I use 404, or just stick to 200 for success but have an empty response?

The **use case** for this question is a Java application that I am writing for Google App Engine. I am sending a request to a servlet, but the data to be sent back to the client will be transmitted through a Channel API socket instead of in the HTTP Response. Currently, my client sends a POST with no content in the request body and waits for a 204 response back from the servlet before polling the Channel API socket. Because no data I being sent in the body of the request, I am debating whether it makes more sense for me to send a GET instead of a POST.
