I&#39;m not sure if that&#39;s possible by default. Due to security concerns, browsers don&#39;t send all content-types they can handle, but just a few `Accept-Encoding`, which doesn&#39;t help a lot in your scenario.

Maybe you can ask your user what they prefer and store that information in their profile.


I have a library that I distribute using maven 2.  The typical user of this library doesn&#39;t use maven to build their applications, but is likely somewhat familiar with maven and probably has it installed.

I&#39;d like to document a &quot;simple&quot; one line command they can use to download my library&#39;s artifacts to their local `~/.m2/repository` without requiring that they set up a pom.xml to do it.

I thought there was a way to do this, but I can&#39;t seem to find it after looking through the `install:install-file` and `dependency` plugin documentation.  I tried things like:

but I think I&#39;m barking up the wrong tree since it appears that the install plugin is used to copy locally built files into the local repository, rather than download remote artifacts into the local repository.

I am having trouble on finding authoritative information about the behavior with HTTP GET query string duplicate fields, like

and in particular if the order is kept or not. Most web-oriented languages produce an array containing both foo and bar associated to a key &quot;field&quot;, but I would like to know if authoritative statement exist (e.g. on a RFC) about this point. [RFC 3986][1] has a section `3.4. Query`, which refers to key=value pairs, but nothing is said on how to interpret order and duplicate fields and so on. This makes sense, since it&#39;s backend dependent, and not in the scope of that RFC...

Although a de-facto standard exists, I&#39;d like to see an authoritative source for it, just out of curiosity.

Checking if a website is up via Python

I have a site that treats &quot;/&quot; and &quot;%2F&quot; in the path portion (not the query string) of a URL differently.  Is this a bad thing to do according to either the RFC or the real world?

I ask because I keep running into little surprises with the web framework I&#39;m using (Ruby on Rails) as well as the layers below that (Passenger, Apache, e.g., I had to enable &quot;ALLOW_ENCODED_SLASHES&quot; for Apache).  I am now leaning toward getting rid of the encoded slashes completely, but I wonder if I should be filing bug reports where I see weird behavior involving the encoded slashes.

As to why I have the encoded slashes in the first place, basically I have routes such as this:

    :controller/:foo/:bar

where :foo is something like a path that can contain slashes.  I thought the most straightforward thing to do would be to just URL escape `foo` so the slashes are ignored by the routing mechanism.  Now I am having doubts, and it&#39;s pretty clear that the frameworks don&#39;t really support this, but according to the RFC is it wrong to do it this way?

Here is some information I have gathered:

RFC 1738 (URLs):
&gt; Usually a URL has the same interpretation when an octet is represented by a character and when it encoded. However, this is not true for reserved characters: encoding a character reserved for a particular scheme may change the semantics of a URL.


RFC 2396 (URIs):

The application I&#39;m working on at the moment has a session timeout value. If the user hasn&#39;t interacted for longer than this value, the next page they try to load, they will be prompted to log in.

All requests made are routed through this mechanism, which includes AJAX calls. Originally we were sending a 200 header with the login page, which introduces some problems with AJAX since code is run if a 200 response is sent, and most data sent back from these RPC calls is JSON or raw JavaScript that gets evaluated (don&#39;t ask :|).

I&#39;ve suggested that a 401 is better, since our JSON parser won&#39;t try to consume an HTML login page.. :)

I am working on my [REST client library for CodeIgniter][1] and I am struggling to work out how to send PUT and DELETE arguments in PHP.

In a few places I have seen people using the options:

    $this-&gt;option(CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $params);

Annoyingly, this seems to do nothing. Is this the correct way to set PUT parameters?

If so, how do I set DELETE parameters?

*$this-&gt;option() is part of my library, it simply builds up an array of CURLOPT_XX constants and sends them to curl_setopt_array() when the built up cURL request is executed.* 

I am attempting to read PUT and DELETE parameters using the following code:

I know you can send the user agent from your `php.ini` file. However, can you also send other information such as `HTTP_ACCEPT`, `HTTP_ACCEPT_LANGUAGE`, and `HTTP_CONNECTION` with `file_get_contents()` ?
