(I&#39;m assuming that the changes that you now want to ignore are at your `origin` remote, you&#39;re on your `master` branch, and you want to revert to the contents of the `upstream` remote)

Firstly, reset your working copy to the upstream master:

    git remote update
    # the double hyphen ensures that upstream/master is
    # considered as a revision and not confused as a path
    git reset --hard upstream/master --

Then push this new branch-head to your origin repository, ignoring the fact that it won&#39;t be a fast-forward:

    git push origin +master

I am looking for a way to programmatically empty the browser cache. I am doing this because the application caches confidential data and I&#39;d like to remove those when you press &quot;log out&quot;. This would happen either via server or JavaScript. Of course, using the software on foreign/public computer is still discouraged as there are more dangers like key loggers that you just can&#39;t defeat on software level.

Followed by:

None of the search results contained python3. What should I try next?

I&#39;m trying to output the log between two tagged commits.

If I then do:

`git log 6.x-1.0-beta8 6.x-1.0-beta9 &gt; ~/gitlogbrone.txt`

It outputs all the commits since the start of the repo which isn&#39;t what I want. I&#39;ve read through the git log manual but it&#39;s not helping much.

I have made a small change in some code but TortoiseGit shows it as modified (red exclamation sign) although I have committed, pulled, pushed, but it stays. What should I do here? I have not seen this issue before.

I have started collaborating on a series of projects with several developers on github, and we recently created an organization with it&#39;s own &quot;organization&quot; type account on github.  I see that I can fork repositories of my collaborators into the organization account using the usual fork menu, but of course I cannot fork my own account.  

What is the expected workflow to import my existing repositories into the organizational account?  (I presume I could fork projects hosted by the other members, but not my own?)

I am trying to update the submodules of this git repositary but I keep getting a fatal errors:

I have a project hosted on GitHub and I have a local clone. I have a load of small commits that I have already pushed up to GitHub. This has all been done using the default *master branch.

I got confused between merge --squash and rebase etc...
What is the most straightforward way of combining several historial commits in to one commit so that it pushes up to GitHub?

but still the author/committer name shows [unknown]

 not knowing what I was doing I experimented with  setting $ GIT_AUTHOR_NAME=&quot;my name&quot; and it changed my name to my username [freeenergy] (I.E. my issue was fixed.)  But when I switched back to my other computer the issue was the same.
