The installer lets you install anywhere. You can install it to a global location, like `/opt/anaconda`. 



Add the anaconda PATH to `/etc/profile`:

**for anaconda 2 :**

    PATH=$PATH:$HOME/anaconda/bin

**for anaconda 3 :**

    PATH=$PATH:$HOME/anaconda3/bin

**and then :**

    source /etc/profile

You definitely need to install to a path which is accessible from all users. `/opt/YOUR_CONDA_DISTRIB_NAME` is a good candidate.

However you also have to add `conda` path which automatically happens when you add the following shell script to other users&#39; `.bashrc` files. You can find the shell script in the root user&#39;s `.bashrc` file. For the record, I bring it here:

Error: SASS installation for windows

I&#39;m banging my head against the wall with the following code in Swift. I&#39;ve defined a simple protocol:

    protocol Nameable {
        var name : String { get set }
    }

and implemented that with:

    class NameableImpl : Nameable {
        var name : String = &quot;&quot;
    }

and then I have the following method in another file (don&#39;t ask me why):

    func nameNameable( nameable: Nameable, name: String ) {
        nameable.name = name
    }

The problem is that the compiler gives the following error for the property assignment in this method:

&gt; **cannot assign to &#39;name&#39; in &#39;nameable&#39;**

I can&#39;t see what I&#39;m doing wrong... The following code compiles fine:

    var nameable : Nameable = NameableImpl()
    nameable.name = &quot;John&quot;

I&#39;m sure it&#39;s something simple I&#39;ve overlooked - what am I doing wrong?

[Anaconda python distribution][1] is very convenient to deploy scientific computing env (SCE) and switch python versions as you want. By default, the installation will locate python into `~/anaconda` and the SCE can only benefit the local user.

But what I need is to provide a complete SCE wit Anaconda while masking the system-wide python version, because my cluster is running Spark and provides services for multiple users in our team. Is it possible with current Anaconda version?

I have a dataframe where some cells contain lists of multiple values. Rather than storing multiple
values in a cell, I&#39;d like to expand the dataframe so that each item in the list gets its own row (with the same values in all other columns). So if I have:

How to select all columns whose names start with X in a pandas DataFrame

It is standard convention to use `if foo is None` rather than `if foo == None` to test if a value is specifically `None`.

If you want to determine whether a value is exactly `True` (not just a true-like value), is there any reason to use `if foo == True` rather than `if foo is True`? Does this vary between implementations such as CPython (2.x and 3.x), Jython, PyPy, etc.?

Example: say `True` is used as a singleton value that you want to differentiate from the value `&#39;bar&#39;`, or any other true-like value:

    if foo is True: # vs foo == True
        ...
    elif foo == &#39;bar&#39;:
        ...

Is there a case where using `if foo is True` would yield different results from `if foo == True`?


NOTE: I am aware of [Python booleans - if x:, vs if x == True, vs if x is True][1]. However, it only addresses whether `if foo`, `if foo == True`, or `if foo is True` should generally be used to determine whether `foo` has a true-like value.

I&#39;ve got Pycharm 4 running on my Linux (Ubuntu 14.04) machine.  In addition to the system python, I&#39;ve also got Anaconda installed.  Getting the two to play nicely together seems to be a bit of a problem... PyCharm provides some interesting integration for `virtualenv`s and `pip`, but the Anaconda Python distribution seems to prefer using its own `conda` tool for both activities.

Is there a relatively simple/painless way to be able to use `conda` in conjunction with PyCharm?  Not just as an alternative interpreter i.e. point PyCharm at the Anaconda Python binary for a project interpreter, but to be able to create, source/activate and deactivate virtual envs, add/remove packages in those virtual envs, etc. 

Or am I going to have to choose between using Anaconda (and having a more recent and up-to-date python than may come with the system), and being able to use PyCharm&#39;s features to their fullest extent?

Using (Ana)conda within PyCharm

I&#39;ve installed Anaconda and created two extra environments: py3k (which holds Python 3.3) and py34 (which holds Python 3.4). Besides those, I have a default environment named &#39;root&#39; which the Anaconda installer created by default and which holds Python 2.7. This last one is the default, whenever I launch &#39;ipython&#39; from the terminal it gives me version 2.7. In order to work with Python 3.4, I need to issue the commands (in the shell)

    source activate py34
    ipython

which change the default environment to Python 3.4. This works fine, but it&#39;s annoying since most of the time I work on Python 3.4, instead of Python 2.7 (which I hold for teaching purposes, it&#39;s a rather long story). Anyway, I&#39;ll like to know how to change the default environment to Python 3.4, bearing in mind that I don&#39;t want to reinstall everything from scratch.

When I installed OpenCV using [Homebrew][1] (`brew`), I got this problem whenever I run this command to test `python -c &quot;import cv2&quot;`:

But nothing have changed. How can I link the NumPy version to OpenCV?

How can I upgrade NumPy?

I installed the latest version of Anaconda.
Now I want to install OpenCV within it. When I type:

    conda install -c https://conda.binstar.org/anaconda opencv

I get this message error: &quot;*conda is not recognized as internal command ...*&quot; (sorry, I try to translate from French because my OS is in French) 

The problem is that conda comes with Anaconda, so I wonder why lauching Anaconda and type the above command does not work ?

Why Anaconda does not recognize conda command?

When using the Anacoda Python distribution, what is the best way to install a PyPi package that isn&#39;t available directly through Anaconda?  For now I&#39;m using:

    conda pipbuild [pypi_name]
    conda install --use-local [package_spec]

But I&#39;m unclear if this is the best way and if `conda update --all` will update these packages when updates are made available.  I&#39;m also unclear what the point of binstar is when PyPi already exists.
