To create a test case template:

You can use my plug-in to create tests easily: 

1. highlight the method 
2. press &lt;kbd&gt;Ctrl&lt;/kbd&gt;+&lt;kbd&gt;Alt&lt;/kbd&gt;+&lt;kbd&gt;Shift&lt;/kbd&gt;+&lt;kbd&gt;U&lt;/kbd&gt;
3. it will create the unit test for it.

Any unit test you could create by just pressing a button would not be worth anything.  How is the tool to know what parameters to pass your method and what to expect back?  Unless I&#39;m misunderstanding your expectations.  

*Close* to that is something like [FitNesse][1], where you can set up tests, then separately you set up a wiki page with your test data, and it runs the tests with that data, publishing the results as red/greens.

If you would be happy to make test writing much faster, I would suggest [Mockito][2], a mocking framework that lets you very easily mock the classes around the one you&#39;re testing, so there&#39;s less setup/teardown, and you know you&#39;re really testing that one class instead of a dependent of it.

What is the utility of the [global keyword][1]?

Are there any reasons to prefer one method to another?

 - Security?
 - Performance?
 - Anything else?

PHP global in functions

Are `console.log/debug/warn/error` in node.js asynchrounous? I mean will javascript code execution halt till the stuff is printed on screen or will it print at a later stage?

Also, I am interested in knowing if it is possible for a console.log to NOT display anything if the statement immediately after it crashes node.

I have an old Eclipse project and the code is not well formatted. I&#39;d like to format all the `.java` files according to the settings in Eclipse. There is no option in the file menu to rename a workspace.  Is the recommended practice to close eclipse, rename the folder, and re-open? I worry about some potential dangling references in configuration files corrupting my workspace/projects...

As I was writing up this question I managed to solve it so repeat it here for the benefit of others. Here is the initial problem:

I have created a very simple library project which I want to reference in another project. I have done this previously with no problems so not really sure why it is not working this time. I have:

 1. Flagged the library project via project properties. The `default.properties` file has this set : `android.library=true`

 2. In my other project added reference to my library project via project properties. The `default.properties` file has the reference added as expected ie `android.library.reference.1=K:/android_test_ws/applicationRegistrar`

 3. The green tick against the referenced library project starts off green and then changes to a red cross.

This implies that there must be something wrong / missing from the library project but I don&#39;t know what. My library project on this occasion is MUCH simpler than the previous one I created.

Right now I have my Django unit tests living at `mcif/tests.py`. I would prefer to have something more like `mcif/tests/foo_test.py`, `mcif/tests/bar_test.py`, etc., but if I organize my tests that way, Django flips out.

I&#39;m very new to unit testing and mocking! I&#39;m trying to write some unit tests that covers some code that interacts with a data store. Data access is encapsulated by IRepository&lt;T&gt;:

        IEnumerable&lt;T&gt; FindBy(Expression&lt;Func&lt;T, bool&gt;&gt; predicate);
        ....
    }

The code that I&#39;m trying to test, utilising a concrete IoC&#39;d implementation of IRepository looks like this:

So that I&#39;m testing the logic of SignupLogic.AddNewCompany() itself, rather than the logic and the concrete Repository, I&#39;m mocking up IRepository and passing it into SignupLogic. The mocked up Repository looks like this:

    Mock&lt;Repository&gt; repoMock = new Mock&lt;Repository&gt;();
    repoMock.Setup(moq =&gt; moq.FindBy(c =&gt; c.Name == &quot;Company Inc&quot;)....

which returns an in-memory IEnumberable containing a Company object with name set to &quot;Company Inc&quot;. The unit test that calls SignupLogic.AddNewCompany sets up a company with duplicate details and trys to pass that in, and I assert that an ArgumentException is thrown with the message &quot;Company already exists&quot;. This test isn&#39;t passing.

Debugging through the unit test and AddNewCompany() as it runs, it would appear that existingCompany is always null. In desperation, I&#39;ve found that if I update SignupLogic.AddNewCompany() so that the call to FindBy looks like this:

    Company existingCompany = this.repo.FindBy(c =&gt; c.Name == &quot;Company Inc&quot;).FirstOrDefault();

the test passes, which suggests to me that Moq is only responding to code that is *exactly* the same as I&#39;ve setup in my test fixture. Obviously that&#39;s not especially useful in testing that any duplicate company is rejected by SignupLogic.AddNewCompany.

I&#39;ve tried setting up moq.FindBy(...) to use &quot;Is.ItAny&lt;string&gt;&quot;, but that doesn&#39;t cause the test to pass either.

From everything I&#39;m reading, it would appear that testing Expressions as I&#39;m trying to isn&#39;t actually do-able with Moq here. Is it possible? Please help!

I use `unittest` (actually `unittest2`) for Python testing, together with [Python Mock][1] for mocking objects and [nose][2] to run all tests in a single pass.

I miss being able to tell what is working and what&#39;s wrong at a glance from the green/red bars. Is there a way to get colored output from unittest?

I am using a simple unit test based test runner to test my Django application.

My application itself is configured to use a basic logger in settings.py using:

    logging.basicConfig(level=logging.DEBUG)

And in my application code using:

    logger = logging.getLogger(__name__)
    logger.setLevel(getattr(settings, &#39;LOG_LEVEL&#39;, logging.DEBUG))

However, when running unittests, I&#39;d like to disable logging so that it doesn&#39;t clutter my test result output. Is there a simple way to turn off logging in a global way, so that the application specific loggers aren&#39;t writing stuff out to the console when I run tests?

I am trying to `Mock` a function (that returns some external content) using the python [mock module][1].

I&#39;m having some trouble mocking functions that are imported into a module.

For example, in `util.py` I have 

    def get_content():
      return &quot;stuff&quot;

I want to mock `util.get_content` so that it returns something else.

I am trying this:
    
    util.get_content=Mock(return_value=&quot;mocked stuff&quot;)

If `get_content` gets invoked inside another module, it never actually seems to return the mocked object. Am I missing something in terms of how to use `Mock`?

Note that if I invoke the following, things work correctly:
    
    &gt;&gt;&gt; util.get_content=Mock(return_value=&quot;mocked stuff&quot;)
    &gt;&gt;&gt; util.get_content()
    &quot;mocked stuff&quot;

However, if `get_content` is called from inside another module, it invokes the original function instead of the mocked version:

I&#39;m having difficulty finding a way to set a static field of a class. It&#39;s basically like this:

where B is another class.

Is there any way to do this in PowerMock other than with `setInternalStateFromContext()`? Using the context class method seems a bit of overkill for setting one field.

I can&#39;t understand how JUnit 4.8 should work with Hamcrest matchers. There are some matchers defined inside [`junit-4.8.jar`](http://repo2.maven.org/maven2/junit/junit/4.8/junit-4.8.jar) in `org.hamcrest.CoreMatchers`. At the same time there are some _other_ matchers in [`hamcrest-all-1.1.jar`](http://repo2.maven.org/maven2/org/hamcrest/hamcrest-all/1.1/hamcrest-all-1.1.jar) in `org.hamcrest.Matchers`. So, where to go? Shall I explicitly include hamcrest JAR into the project and ignore matchers provided by JUnit?

In particular, I&#39;m interested in `empty()` matcher and can&#39;t find it in any of these jars. I need something else? :)

And a philosophical question: why JUnit included `org.hamcrest` package into its own distribution instead of encouraging us to use original hamcrest library?
