I have a hibernate and JSF2 application going to the deployment server and suddenly throwing an org.hibernate.AssertionFailure: null id in exception. I will provide the stack trace and code immediately but here are four important issues first: 

1. This happens only on the deployment server (Jboss &amp; MySql running on Windows Sever 2008.) It does not happen on my development machine (Tomcat and MySql running on Windoes 7 Pro) and also not on the staging environment (Jboss and MySql running on Linux.) 

2. Researching this, it seems that people get this error when trying to insert an object. But I get the error when I&#39;m doing a simple query. (various different queries, actually, as the error pops up on several pages randomly.) 

3. The error hits only every now and then. If I do a Jboss restart it goes away, but a time later returns. Also, it&#39;s not consistent, on some clicks it&#39;s there, on others it&#39;s not. Even when it hits, when I do a simple refresh of the page it returns fine. 

4. I&#39;m using c3p0 (config below)

Any idea what&#39;s going on?

I installed MySQL using **mysql-installer-5.5.20.0.msi** on Windows 7.
From the cmd window, I run &quot;mysqlshow -u root -p&quot;. It asked for a password, then returned this error: &quot;Can&#39;t connect to MySQL server on &#39;localhost&#39; (10061)&quot; This is a bad indication of partially failed/successful installation.

After reading the page, http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.5/en/windows-troubleshooting.html, it told me to find an error log (.err) in C:\Program Files\MySQL\MySQL Server 5.5\data. The directory exists but there is no log file.

I have a feeling this is related to the tight security of Windows 7, especially when installing a Unix based software. And yes, I am the Administrator on my PC.

Any help or suggestions is appreciated. And I can return a favor by answering Java and SQL query questions.

    Transfer-Encoding: gzip

or a

    Content-Encoding: gzip

when I want to allow **clients** with e.g. limited bandwidth to **signal their willingness to accept a compressed response** and the **server have the final say whether or not to compress**.

The latter is what e.g. Apache&#39;s mod_deflate and IIS do, if you let it take care of compression. Depending on the size of the content to be compressed, it will do the additional `Transfer-Encoding: chunked`.

It will also include a `Vary: Accept-Encoding`, which already hints at the problem. `Content-Encoding` seems to be part of the entity, so changing the `Content-Encoding` amounts to a change of the entity, i.e. a different `Accept-Encoding` header means e.g. a cache cannot use its cached version of the otherwise identical entity.

Is there a definite answer on this that I have missed (and that&#39;s not buried inside a message in a long thread in some apache newsgroup)?

My current impression is:

* Transfer-Encoding would in fact be the right way to do what is mostly done with Content-Encoding by existing server and client implentations
* Content-Encoding, because of its semantic implications, carries a couple of issues (what should the server do to the `ETag` when it transparently compresses a response?)
* The reason is chicken&#39;n&#39;egg: Browsers don&#39;t support it because servers don&#39;t because browsers don&#39;t

So I am assuming the right way would be a `Transfer-Encoding: gzip` (or, if I additionally chunk the body, it [would become][2] `Transfer-Encoding: gzip, chunked`). And no reason to touch `Vary` or `ETag` or any other header in that case as it&#39;s a transport-level thing.

For now I don&#39;t care too much about the &#39;hop-by-hop&#39;-ness of `Transfer-Encoding`, something that others seem to be concerned about first and foremost, because proxies might uncompress and forward uncompressed to the client. However, proxies might just as well forward it as-is (compressed), if the original request has the proper `Accept-Encoding` header, which in case of all browsers that I know is a given.

Btw, this issue is at least a decade old, see e.g.

Any clarification on this will be appreciated. Both in terms of what is considered standards-compliant and what is considered practical. For example, HTTP client libraries only supporting transparent &quot;Content-Encoding&quot; would be an argument against practicality.

I normally compress using `tar zcvf` and decompress using `tar zxvf` (using gzip due to habit). 

I&#39;ve recently gotten a quad core CPU with hyperthreading, so I have 8 logical cores, and I notice that many of the cores are unused during compression/decompression. 

Is there any way I can utilize the unused cores to make it faster?

I recently watched this [video][1] by Chris Coyier over at css-tricks.com. In the video, he talks about enabling gzip compression to make websites run faster. 

As per his instruction, I linked through to github via html5boilerplate.com, copied the gzip compression code from their .htaccess file, pasted it into my own, and uploaded it to my site.

How can I get Apache gzip compression to work?

I have a web application that has to perform a repeated tasks, Sending messages and alerts, I, already, use a script page do those tasks when it loaded in the browser i.e http://example.com/tasks.php and I included it by the mean of iframe in every page of my web application.

Now I want to change this to use CRON jobs because the first approach may leads to jam performance, So How could I make a CRON job that visits http://example.com/tasks.php. However, I don&#39;t want this CRON job creating output files such as day.*!

I host the application on shared hosting service that permits CRON jobs via cPanel.

I have a WordPress database on my local machine that I want to transfer to a hosted phpMyAdmin on cPanel. However, when I try to import the database into the environment, I keep getting this error:

So currently my users download a zipfile, unzip it and then run setup.exe - I would like them to do this with one click. Using http://www.wikihow.com/Use-7Zip-to-Create-Self-Extracting-excutables i can make a self-extracting exe, but it doesn&#39;t actually run the installer.

it seems I also need an .sfx file so I copied from the other question and created one with the following contents
