Just like any other environment variable, with [`SET`](http://ss64.com/nt/set.html):

    SET PATH=%PATH%;c:\whatever\else

If you want to have a little safety check built in first, check to see if the new path exists first:

    IF EXIST c:\whatever\else SET PATH=%PATH%;c:\whatever\else

If you want that to be local to that batch file, use [`setlocal`](http://ss64.com/nt/setlocal.html):

    setlocal
    set PATH=...
    set OTHERTHING=...

    @REM Rest of your script

Read the docs carefully for `setlocal`/`endlocal` , and have a look at the other references on that site - [Functions](http://ss64.com/nt/syntax-functions.html) is pretty interesting too and the syntax is tricky.

There is an important detail:

    set PATH=&quot;C:\linutils;C:\wingit\bin;%PATH%&quot;

does not work, while

    set PATH=C:\linutils;C:\wingit\bin;%PATH%

works. The difference is the quotes!

That&#39;s right, but it doesn&#39;t change it permanently, but just for current command prompt, if you wanna to change it permanently you have to use for example this:

    setx ENV_VAR_NAME &quot;DESIRED_PATH&quot; /m

This will change it permanently and yes you can overwrite it by another batch script.

I have a simple actionmethod, that returns some json. It runs on ajax.example.com. I need to access this from another site someothersite.com.

If I try to call it, I get the expected...:

    Origin http://someothersite.com is not allowed by Access-Control-Allow-Origin.

I know of two ways to get around this: [JSONP][1] and creating a [custom HttpHandler][2] to 
set the header.

Is there no simpler way?

Is it not possible for a simple action to either define a list of allowed origins - or simple allow everyone? Maybe an action filter?

Optimal would be...:

    return json(mydata, JsonBehaviour.IDontCareWhoAccessesMe);

For new applications written in Java 7, is there any reason to use a [`java.io.File`][2] object any more or can we consider it deprecated? 

I believe a [`java.nio.file.Path`][1] can do everything a [`java.io.File`][2] can do and more.

I program in WPF C#.  I have e.g. the following path:

```
and I want to extract **`hello`** from it. 

The path is a `string` retrieved from a database.  Currently I&#39;m using the following code to split the path by `&#39;\&#39;` and then split again by `&#39;.&#39;`:
