You can use keywords in C# as identifiers by prepending @ infront of them.

    var @class = new object();

To quote from the MSDN Documentation on [**C# Keywords**][1]:

I have IQueryable&lt;T&gt; list of objects of type T which I want to transform into objects of type K

the transform function returns null if it cannot tranform the objects.If I want to filter out null elements can I call

or is there any other way of filtering out null elements when calling Select in LINQ ?

I saw this tip in another question and was wondering if someone could explain to me how on earth this works?

I mean, does the `finally` clause really execute *after* the `return` statement? How thread-unsafe is this code? Can you think of any additional hackery that can be done w.r.t. this `try-finally` hack?

I have the following enumeration:

Good now I&#39;ve got the tools to get a string value for an enumerator.
I can then use it like this:

    string valueOfAuthenticationMethod = StringEnum.GetStringValue(AuthenticationMethod.FORMS);

Okay now all of these work like a charm but I find it a whole lot of work. I was wondering if there is a better solution for this.

I also tried something with a dictionary and static properties but that wasn&#39;t better either.

We have software that communicates with hardware but sometimes something
goes wrong and we are no longer to communicate with it, until we restart the software.

I have tried forcing TcpClient.Close() and even setting it to  null but that doesn&#39;t work.
Only a complete restart of the software works.

Suggestions?

I can&#39;t use the using keyword because TpcClient is only defined in one location, but used throughout the library. (And there is only one connection at any given time)

It&#39;s a library that handles communication. The software itself can call the ResetConnection() method of the Controller class (which represents the hardware).

It currently looks like

    if (tcpClient != null)
    {
        tcpClient.Close();
        tcpClient = null;
    }

Now from what I&#39;ve read here I should use tcpClient.Dispose() instead of &quot; = null&quot;

C# Equivalent of SQL Server DataTypes

I&#39;m developing an application which currently have hundreds of objects created. 

Is it possible to determine (or approximate) the memory allocated by an object (class instance)? 

How much memory does a C#/.NET object use?

Does anyone know of any good tools/utilities for managing `Web.Config` files between different build/deployment environments?

For example, I have a WCF project that in development I don&#39;t want to enable SSL, but I do want it enabled in production.  I want different logging settings, different DB connection strings, different error handling, different file paths... Even some different Unity framework bindings (wire up mocks for unit testing instead of the real objects for deployment).

Maintaining individual copies of the `Web.Config` is a pain, because adding a new web service means editing multiple files and keeping them in sync.

I&#39;ve also noticed that if you muck with the `Web.Config` too much by hand, Visual Studio will choke if you try to use the &quot;add item&quot; wizard to, say, add a new Web Service for WCF, since it has to modify the Web.Config to add the endpoint,a nd can&#39;t parse it any more. So I have to be careful not to invalidate the existing Web.Config.

I also thought about just using some regex to do replacements and just building a new `Web.Config` in a pre-build command. That seems like the best option so far...

Any other ideas? It seems like this should be a very common issue, since the `Web.Config` should probably never be the same between development and production deployments.

I decided to write a quick console app that will take all the xml files in a given directory and merge them into one, and only include certain files based on the name.

So I can make in a directory:

**WebConfig_All**

        ...
      &lt;/configSections&gt;
      &lt;system.web&gt;
        ...
      &lt;/system.web&gt;
    &lt;/configuration&gt;

**connectionStrings_Debug**

    &lt;configuration&gt;
      &lt;connectionStrings&gt;
        &lt;add name=&quot;connstr&quot; connectionString=&quot;...dev...&quot; /&gt;
      &lt;/connectionStrings&gt;
    &lt;/configuration&gt;

**connectionStrings_Release**

    &lt;configuration&gt;
      &lt;connectionStrings&gt;
        &lt;add name=&quot;connstr&quot; connectionString=&quot;...prod...&quot; /&gt;
      &lt;/connectionStrings&gt;
    &lt;/configuration&gt;

Then run my command line tool, and pass in the configuration (Debug, Release, custom...)
And it will merge all the files that end in `_All&quot; or `_&amp;lt;configuration&amp;gt;`.

So now I have 80% of my Web.Config in a single `WebConfig_All` file, and the 20% custom stuff in separate files per build configuration.  I can then run my command line tool as a pre-build task in VisualStudio, or from NAnt, or wherever I want...

I also made my XML merge logic good enough to handle stuff like:

Of course in typical Microsoft fashion of only implementing any feature 50% of the way, it only works for web projects using web deploy. There is a plugin to enable transformations in other projects, located here: [http://www.hanselman.com/blog/SlowCheetahWebconfigTransformationSyntaxNowGeneralizedForAnyXMLConfigurationFile.aspx][2]

You could also use a tool like [BuildMaster][3] to manage config files (along with builds, tests, DB scripts, etc...)

Managing complex Web.Config files between deployment environments

I don&#39;t know what I am missing, but I added Profile properties in the Web.config file but cannot access Profile.*Item* in the code or create a new profile.

How to assign Profile values?

I&#39;m using ASP .NET MVC Beta and I get the HTTP 404 (The resource cannot be found) error when I use this url which has a &quot;dot&quot; at the end:

  http://localhost:81/Title/Edit/Code1.

If I remove the dot at the end or the dot is somewhere in the middle I don&#39;t get the error.

I tried to debug but it I get the error from &quot;System.Web.CachedPathData.GetConfigPathData(String configPath)&quot; before ProcessRequest in MvcHandler.

Is &quot;dot&quot; not allowed at the end of a url? Or is there a way to fix the route definition to handle this url?

For an example: I have a table named Detail1 [Id(integer), Code(string), Description(string)] which has FK relationship with Master1 through it&#39;s Id column. Whenever I select a record of Master1, I also select it&#39;s Detail1 record to get it&#39;s Code field. In order to not to make this join everytime (since usually there isn&#39;t only one detail, there are more than one) I choose not to use Id column and I make Code PK of Detail1.

But when I get rid of Id and use Code as PK then my routes also start to work with Code field, like: Detail1\Edit\Code1

This Code can have anything in it or at the end, including DOT. There are cases where I can prohibit a DOT at the end but sometimes it&#39;s really meaningfull.

And I&#39;have also seen this [post][1] that routes can be very flexible, so I didn&#39;t think mine is so weird.

So that&#39;s why I do something so non-standard. Any suggestions?
