I recently upgraded my laptop to Snow Leopard, updated TeX to Version 3.1415926 (TeX Live 2011/MacPorts 2011_5), and installed Python 2.7.3.  After all these installs, I ran macport selfupdate and macport upgrade outdated.  However, now when I try to use TeX in matplotlib, I receive the following:

Similar to [this previous question](https://stackoverflow.com/questions/6082126/tex-in-matplotlib-on-mac-os-x-and-tex-live), I tried setting the path in my python code via:

    os.environ[&#39;PATH&#39;] = os.environ[&#39;PATH&#39;] + &#39;:/opt/local/bin/latex&#39;
since `which latex` yielded `/opt/local/bin/latex`.  However, that didn&#39;t work, with the same error message.  I also tried the path to tex, as well as the example from the previous question.  No change.

I then tried to force possibly missing packages via:

    matplotlib.rcParams[&#39;text.latex.preamble&#39;]=[r&quot;\usepackage{amsmath}&quot;]
however, that also did not work. 

The only way I can get my plots to work is to say `rc(&#39;text&#39;, usetex=False)`, which is not ideal.  Any help would be much appreciated.

This is different to other questions regarding an error message in Node that reads **RangeError: Maximum call stack size exceeded** in that I know exactly why I&#39;m getting this error message. It&#39;s happening because I&#39;m recursing, recursing quite a lot in fact.

For example, if I have Safari, Mail and Xcode open in full screen, in exactly that order, every once in a while they will swap positions (eg. Xcode will sometimes move to the left, so the that swiping left will bring me to Safari instead of mail). The order of these applications is important for productivity purposes, and it gets really confusing when you have 6 of them open and all of a sudden Mail goes from spot 6 to spot 2.

Any ideas how to get this switching of places to stop?

I need to migrate from one Mac to another, and want Sublime Text 2 on a new computer to have all the same configuration/plugins I have installed on the old one.

Is there some folder(s) I could just copy and restore on another one to replicate everything?

I&#39;m attempting to profile some c++ code on my mac (os x Lion) and I haven&#39;t been able to find anything useful. I&#39;m looking for a profiler that will tell me what functions are taking up my cpu time (similar to the matlab profiler). 

Here is what I have tried

 - gprof. This is what I use on my linux machine, but it just gives me empty output on my mac (apparently a known problem)
 - Instruments. I can&#39;t for the life of me figure out how to profile anything within my compiled binary. Nor can I find any sort of useful tutorial.
 - (other searching revealed Shark, which is no longer available and Valgrind which is for memory).

gdb fails with &quot;Unable to find Mach task port for process-id&quot; error

I am writing a script to monitor the CPU and MEM of any given process. For that i need to send in the name of the process to be monitored as a commandline argument. For example. 

    ./monitorscript &lt;pname&gt;

I need to get the pid of the process in the script so that i can use a `ps -p &lt;pid&gt;` inside. 

How do i get the pid of a process given its process name? 

I understand that there might be multiple processes in the same name. I just want to get the first process out of that list.

Trying to do a make install of git from source, and it keep kicking up the error:

When I run 

    screen

on the remote host(running Linux), I obtain the following error:

    Cannot find terminfo entry for &#39;xterm-256color&#39;.

I am running terminal on Mac OSX Lion to access the remote host. I have googled to find out the solution to this problem and it appears that people suggest doing

    export TERM=xterm-color

which doesn&#39;t work for me.

I have a weird doubt, accessing the database created using mongodb on mac?

I know, in windows there is a folder called c:\data\db, where my database files are stored.

How and where in mac, the database is stored.

I remember doing something like 

    sudo mkdir -p /data/db
    sudo chown `id -u` /data/db

to create such a folder on mac, but I didn&#39;t find any database file in this folder, though i created a database.

Where are the database files saved on mac?

I get `Illegal Instruction: 4` errors with binaries compiled with GCC 4.7.2 under Mac OS X 10.8.2 (&quot;Mountain Lion&quot;), when those binaries are run under Mac OS X 10.7.x (&quot;Lion&quot;) and earlier versions. The binaries work properly under Mac OS X 10.8.x.

I added `-mmacosx-version-min=10.5` to my compile flags and this seems to help resolve the issue for 10.5.x, 10.6.x and 10.7.x clients, whatever that issue is. 

Which gets to my question(s):

 * What is the `Illegal Instruction: 4` error?
 * Why does `-mmacosx-version-min=10.x` fix this specific error on `10.x` and greater clients?

I&#39;d like to apply this fix to my makefiles, but would like to know what it is doing before I pull the trigger. (Will I have larger binaries? Do I still have 64-bit binaries? Are there gotchas with this approach I should know about? Unintended side-effects? Etc.)

Hello when I attempt to install pylibmc on OSX Lion using pip I get the following error:
