The difference is that `Visibility.Hidden` hides the control, but reserves the space it occupies in the layout. So it renders whitespace instead of the control.
`Visibilty.Collapsed` does not render the control *and* does not reserve the whitespace. The space the control would take is &#39;collapsed&#39;, hence the name.

The exact text from the MSDN:

Even though a bit old thread, for those who still looking for the differences:

Aside from layout (space) taken in Hidden and not taken in Collapsed, there is another difference.

If we have custom controls inside this &#39;Collapsed&#39; main control, the next time we set it to Visible, it will &quot;load&quot; all custom controls. It will not pre-load when window is started.

As for &#39;Hidden&#39;, it will load all custom controls + main control which we set as hidden when the &quot;window&quot; is started.

I have the file &quot;`main.cpp`&quot; open in my editor.

I want to see the previous revision of &quot;`main.cpp`&quot; in the editor too.

The way I do it now is like this.

    close &quot;main.cpp&quot; in the editor

I&#39;ve deleted some records from a table in a SQL Server database. 

The IDs in the table look like this:

&gt; 101
&gt; 1200
&gt; 1201...

I want to delete the later records (IDs &gt;1200), then I want to reset the auto increment so the next autogenerated ID will be 102. So my records are sequential, Is there a way to do this in SQL Server?

The following WPF UserControl called **DataTypeWholeNumber** which works.

Now I want to make a UserControl called **DataTypeDateTime** and **DataTypeEmail**, etc.

Many of the Dependency Properties will be shared by all these controls and therefore I want to put **their common methods into a BaseDataType** and have each of these UserControls inherit from this base type.

However, when I do that, I get the ***error: Partial Declaration may not have different base classes***.

So how can I implement inheritance with UserControls so shared functionality is all in the base class?

I have a tooltip for a Label and I want it to stay open until the user
moves the mouse to a different control.

I have tried the following properties on the tooltip:

I want to make an instance variable that can&#39;t be accessed from outside. Is something like that possible in objective-c? I remember Apple has private variables and stuff like that, but if people know about them, they can use them. I&#39;m displaying a very big tree with a lot of items in it. Each of these items shows information to the user through its associated UserControl control, and this information has to be updated every 250 milliseconds, which can be a very expensive task since I&#39;m also using reflection to access to some of their values. My first approach was to use the IsVisible property, but it doesn&#39;t work as I expected.

Is there any way I could determine whether a control is &#39;visible&#39; to the user? 

Note: I&#39;m already using the IsExpanded property to skip updating collapsed nodes, but some nodes have 100+ elements and can&#39;t find a way to skip those which are outside the grid viewport.
