There are two flavors of table valued functions. One that is just a select statement and one that can have more rows than just a select statement.

This can not have a variable:

    create function Func() returns table
    as
    return
    select 10 as ColName

You have to do like this instead:

    create function Func()
    returns @T table(ColName int)
    as
    begin
      declare @Var int
      set @Var = 10
      insert into @T(ColName) values (@Var)
      return
    end




A couple of questions regarding the x86 CPU privilege rings:

- Why aren&#39;t rings 1 and 2 used by most operating systems? Is it just to maintain code compatibility with other architectures, or is there a better reason?

- Are there any operating systems which actually use those rings? Or are they completely unused?

In SQL server 2008, I would like to get datetime column rounded to nearest hour and nearest minute preferably with existing functions in 2008.

For this column value `2007-09-22 15:07:38.850`, the output will look like:

    2007-09-22 15:08 -- nearest minute
    2007-09-22 15    -- nearest hour

I was using CROSS APPLY to join Users and GeoPhone tables and everything worked fast but now I have Users with NULL values in Phone column. Cross apply skips these rows in final output. So I switched to OUTER APPLY. But it works greatly slower (more than 15 times as slower when total number of rows in output increased just by 1000).

    SELECT TOP (10000) dbo.Users.Login, dbo.Users.Phone, GeoPhone.Country
    FROM  dbo.Users CROSS APPLY
                     (SELECT TOP 1 Country
                     FROM    dbo.GeoPhone
                     WHERE dbo.Users.Phone &lt;= dbo.GeoPhone.[End]) GeoPhone
		 
Versus:

    SELECT TOP (10000) dbo.Users.Login, dbo.Users.Phone, GeoPhone.Country
    FROM  dbo.Users OUTER APPLY
                     (SELECT TOP 1 Country
                     FROM    dbo.GeoPhone
                     WHERE dbo.Users.Phone &lt;= dbo.GeoPhone.[End]) GeoPhone

I&#39;m trying to understand why. As I see execution plan is different. But theoretically I can&#39;t see any computation that may cause such slowdown.

Any ideas?

**MY FINAL SOLUTION:**

    SELECT TOP (10000) dbo.Users.Login, dbo.Users.Phone, GeoPhone.Country
    FROM  dbo.Users CROSS APPLY
                     (SELECT TOP 1 Country
                     FROM    dbo.GeoPhone
                     WHERE ISNULL(dbo.Users.Phone, 0) &lt;= dbo.GeoPhone.[End]) GeoPhone

This assigns actual Country for non-null phones and country from first range for null phones (which is &quot;UNKNOWN&quot; for my case already). For some reason `WHERE dbo.Users.Phone &lt;= dbo.GeoPhone.[End] OR dbo.Users.Phone IS NULL` does the same results but greatly slower.

Please feel free to comment this out.

This code loads in a few external JS files which I do have access to, and what I&#39;d like to do is change one of the functions contained in the original file without copying and pasting the whole thing into the second JS file.

Based on the replies posted for this question, the situation for the default constructor seems similar.  Given that there is almost no difference in meaning between &quot;`=default`&quot; and &quot;`{}`&quot; for destructors, is there similarly almost no difference in meaning between these options for default constructors?  That is, assuming I want to create a type where the objects of that type will be both created and destroyed, why would I want to say

    Widget() = default;

instead of
   
    Widget() {}

?

I have a DF with a huge parseable metadata as a single string column in a Dataframe, lets call it DFA, with ColmnA.

I would like to break this column, ColmnA into multiple columns thru a function, ClassXYZ = Func1(ColmnA). This function returns a class ClassXYZ, with multiple variables, and each of these variables now has to be mapped to new Column, such a ColmnA1, ColmnA2 etc.

How would I do such a transformation from 1 Dataframe to another with these additional columns by calling this Func1 just once, and not have to repeat-it to create all the columns.

Its easy to solve if I were to call this huge function every time to add a new column, but that what I wish to avoid.

Kindly please advise with a working or pseudo code.
