In less than 2 minutes I was able to convert a ShapeFile zip to a GeoJson file!

(I was trying GDAL at the same time and it&#39;s still downloading...)

Put geoserver on your machine (you can download a self contained zip file)

Set up a datastore that points to your shapefile. 

Set up a layer that points to your datastore

Go to the preview layers page and ask for a WFS as GML preview

Voila - an xml representation of your shapefile. 


Ive some classes that share some attributes, and i would like to do something like:

    $dog = (Dog) $cat;


is it possible or is there any generic work around?

Its not a superclass, or a interface or related in any way. They are just 2 different classes i would like php map the attributes from a cat class to a dog and give me the new object. –

i guess i have to specify a little bit more cause seem like a senseless thing to do.

i&#39;ve classes that inherits from different parent classes cause i&#39;ve made an inheritance tree based on the saving method, maybe my bad from the beginning, but the problem is that i have a lot of classes that are practically equal but interacts one with mysql and the other one with xml files. so  i have:

    class MySql_SomeEntity extends SomeMysqlInteract{}

and 

    Xml_SomeEntity extends SomeXmlInteract{}

its a little bit deeper tree but the problem its that. i cant make them inherits from the same class cause multiple inheritance is not allowed, and i cant separate current interaction with superclases cause would be a big trouble.

Basically the attributes in each one are practical the same.

since i have a lot of this matching classes i would like to do some generic casting or something like it that can converts (pass the values to each attribute) and but im trying to search the simplest way to everyone of this classes.

I am trying to create an XSD, and trying to write the definition with the following requirement:

 - Allow child element specified to appear any number of times (0 to unbounded)
 - Allow child elements to be in any order

I looked around and found various solutions like [this][1]:

 - Element child1 child2 can appear any
   number of times (0 to unbounded)

 - Elements child3 and child4 should appear exactly once.

I created a hello world program to load a local kml file (borrowed from google&#39;s docs):

    var ctaLayer = new google.maps.KmlLayer(&quot;http://localhost:8080/kml/cta.kml&quot;);

This does not work (nothing gets loaded).

However, when I change that line to:

      var ctaLayer = new google.maps.KmlLayer(&quot;http://gmaps-samples.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/ggeoxml/cta.kml&quot;);

it loads properly.  Both kml files are identical.  What do I need to do to get it to load when serving it myself? (I tried both absolute and relative paths, and I know the paths I am using are correct...)

Also I added the correct mime type to my appserver&#39;s config file:

        &lt;extension&gt;kml&lt;/extension&gt;

So I guess what I am trying to do is *not* possible without serving the kml from a publicly accessible url...unless someone can prove otherwise

Loading a local .kml file using google maps?

**EDIT: I have been using Postgres with PostGIS for a few months now, and I am satisfied.**

I need to analyze a few million geocoded records, each of which will have latitude and longitude. These records include data of at least three different types, and I will be trying to see if each set influences the other.

What database is best for the underlying data store for all this data? Here&#39;s my desires:

 - **I&#39;m familiar with the DBMS.** I&#39;m weakest with PostgreSQL, but I am willing to learn if everything else checks out.
 - **It does well with GIS queries.** Google searches suggest that PostgreSQL + PostGIS may be the strongest? At least a lot of products seem to use it. MySql&#39;s Spatial Extensions seem comparatively minimal?
 - **Low cost.** Despite the 10GB DB limit in SQL Server Express 2008 R2, I&#39;m not sure I want to live with this and other limitations of the free version.
 - **Not antagonistic with Microsoft .NET Framework.** Thanks to Connector/Net 6.3.4, MySql works well C# and .NET Framework 4 programs. It fully supports .NET 4&#39;s Entity Framework. I cannot find any noncommercial PostgreSQL equivalent, although I&#39;m not opposed to paying $180 for Devart&#39;s dotConnect for PostgreSQL Professional Edition.
 - **Compatible with R.** It appears all 3 of these can talk with R using ODBC, so may not be an issue.

I&#39;ve already done some development using MySql, but I can change if necessary.

After some reading suggests that, converting shapefile into KML and overlaying KML in Google map is an option. If that is the case, how do I convert a shapefile into KMLs?

Given an existing point in lat/long, distance in (in KM) and bearing (in degrees converted to radians), I would like to calculate the new lat/long. [This](http://www.movable-type.co.uk/scripts/latlong.html) site crops up over and over again, but I just can&#39;t get the formula to work for me. 

The formulas as taken the above link are:

    lat2 = asin(sin(lat1)*cos(d/R) + cos(lat1)*sin(d/R)*cos(θ))

    lon2 = lon1 + atan2(sin(θ)*sin(d/R)*cos(lat1), cos(d/R)−sin(lat1)*sin(lat2))
The above formula is for MSExcel where-  

    asin          = arc sin()   
    d             = distance (in any unit)   
    R             = Radius of the earth (in the same unit as above)  
    and hence d/r = is the angular distance (in radians)  
    atan2(a,b)    = arc tan(b/a)  
    θ is the bearing (in radians, clockwise from north);

What is the preferred 3d model format of THREE.JS which is widely used by 3d modelling softwares (can export to that format). I ask this, because I have my 3d models in an own unique format, and would like to use them in THREE.JS.
