By default, the *system.in* of your Gradle build is not wired up with the *system.in* of the *run* (JavaExec) task. You can do the following:

build.gradle (Groovy syntax):

```groovy
run {
    standardInput = System.in
}
```

build.gradle.kts ([Kotlin DSL][1] syntax):

```kotlin
tasks.named&lt;JavaExec&gt;(&quot;run&quot;) {
    standardInput = System.`in`
}
```

As stated above, add 
    
    run {
       standardInput = System.in
    }

And run:

    gradle console:run -q --console=plain

where:

 - `-q` runs task in &quot;quiet&quot; mode (to avoid having `&gt; Building &gt; :run`)
 - `--console=plain` drops execution status: `&lt;=-&gt; 80% EXECUTING [TIME]`

Chances are, the problem lies in your java code. All the application plugin does is compile the java code, and run the main class that you specify. Can you post the code in your main class that you specified for the application plugin (mainClassName) ?

What I need to do is very simple in concept, but unfortunately I have not been able to find an answer for it online.

I need to create dynamic functions in Python (Python2.7) with custom names at runtime. The body of each function also needs to be constructed at runtime but it is (almost) the same for all functions.

I start off with a list of names.

    func_names = [&quot;func1&quot;, &quot;func2&quot;, &quot;func3&quot;]

Note that the func_name list can hold a list of arbitrary names, so the names will NOT simply be func1, func2, func3, ....

I want the outcome to be :

        def func1(*args):
            ...

        def func2(*args):
            ...

        def func3(*args):
            ...


The reason I need to do this is that each function name corresponds to a test case which is then called from the outside world.

**update**: There is no user input. I&#39;m tying two ends of a much bigger module. One end determines what the test cases are and among other things, populates a list of the test cases&#39; names. The other end is the functions themselves, which must have 1:1 mapping with the name of the test case. So I have the name of the test cases, I know what I want to do with each test case, I just need to create the functions that have the name of the test cases. Since the name of the test cases are determined at runtime, the function creation based on those test cases must be at runtime as well.

**update**: I can also wrap this custom named functions in a class if that would make things easier.

I can hard-code the content of the functions (since they are almost the same) in a string, or I can base it off of a base class previously defined. Just need to know how to populate the functions with this content.

For example:

Python dynamic function creation with custom names

There is no array type in python, but to emulate it we can use lists. I want to have 2d array-like structure filled in with zeros. My question is: what is the difference, if any, in this two expressions:

    zeros = [[0 for i in xrange(M)] for j in xrange(M)]
and

    zeros = [[0]*M]*N

Will `zeros` be same? which one is better to use by means of speed and readability?

Here&#39;s the problem: When I run `gradle run` in project directory, the reader does not wait for my console input. `BufferedReader#readLine` instead returns `null` on the very first call. This behavior is not desirable for what am I doing.

What is the solution? Is there a separate console application plugin for gradle or do I need to tweak `application` plugin somehow to suit my needs?

I am working on a Java program that reads a text file line-by-line, each with a number, takes each number throws it into an array, then tries and use insertion sort to sort the array. I need help with getting the program to read the text file.

I am getting the following error messages:

How can I count all lines of all files in all subdirectories with `wc`?

`man wc` suggests `wc -l --files0-from=-`, but I do not know how to generate the list of all files as `NUL-terminated  names`

did not work.
