Can I disable Chrome password check only for localhost?

Google ChromePasswords

Google Chrome Problem Overview

During development, it is very useful to have Chrome autofill my usernames/passwords in localhost. However, due to the new password check feature, it now complains about passwords such as admin. How to disable Chrome password check only for localhost?

I found solutions to disable the password checks for all sites. I also found a flag to disable SSL checks for localhost (but not for password check).

Google Chrome Solutions

Solution 1 - Google Chrome

This isn't an available feature I'm afraid. As a workaround, I'd recommend creating a separate Chrome profile for when you use this system and your personal autofill will then not appear in this profile.

  • At the top right, click Profile Profile.
  • Click Manage people.
  • Click Add person.
  • Choose a name and a photo.
  • Click Save.

Solution 2 - Google Chrome

1 - In Chrome, click on your avatar and "Manage your Google account".

2 - Go to "Security".

3 - Scroll down to "Passwords manager".

4 - Access "Password Check-up" and launch "Check Passwords".

5 - Click on the 3 dots next to the password you want the warning to be ignored and select "Ignore warning"

You should be good.

Solution 3 - Google Chrome

The accepted answer and other good answers point out that you cannot disable saving password for only localhost. They also point out you can make a profile with this choice set globally.

Here is a screenshot journey of what you can do. Find it by navigating:

  1. In Chrome, click on your user's avatar (upper right) and then "Manage your Google account".

Click to navigate to Manage your account

  1. Go to "Security".

Click to navigate to Security settings

  1. Scroll down to "Passwords manager".

Click to navigate to Password Manager

  1. Click Settings gear icon

Click to navigate to Password Manager Settings

  1. Toggle switch for option "Offer to save passwords"

Disabled option of Offer to save passwords
