You don&#39;t need to return a `JsonResult` because its job is to serialize an *object* into JSON string.  You already have the JSON string, so just return it in a ContentResult and specify the correct content type:

    string json = //get some json from your DB
    return new ContentResult { Content = json, ContentType = &quot;application/json&quot; };

Remember that your MVC action methods should all have `ActionResult` as a return type, so you can return `ContentResult` just as easily as `JsonResult`.

I have a console application written in C# that is scheduled to run every 15 minutes or so using the built-in Windows Task Scheduler.

Every time it runs, the black console box pops up for the duration of its execution and then closes. I am not writing anything to the console. Is there a way to make this run in the background?

From what I can find online, the state of the art for Guice + Jersey integration has stagnated since 2008 when it appears both teams reached an impasse. The crux of the issue is that JAX-RS annotations perform field and method injection and this doesn&#39;t play nicely with Guice&#39;s own dependency injection.

A few examples which I&#39;ve found don&#39;t go far enough to elucidate:

* Iqbalyusuf&#39;s post on [Jersey + Guice on Google App Engine Java][1] suffers from a lot of boilerplate (manually getting and calling the injector). I want binding and injection should happen behind the scenes via Guice annotations.

* Jonathan Curran&#39;s article [Creating a RESTful service with Jersey, Guice, and JSR-250][2] gave me hope because it&#39;s much more current (2010), but went no further than showing how to start up a Jersey service inside of a Guice ServletModule. However, there are no examples of doing any real dependency injection. I suppose that was left as an exercise for the reader. Curran&#39;s post may in fact be the correct first step towards wiring up Guice and Jersey and so I plan on starting with that.

* tantalizingly [James Strachan writes][3]:
&gt; JAX-RS works well with dependency
&gt; injection frameworks such as Spring,
&gt; Guice, GuiceyFruit or JBossMC - you
&gt; can basically pick whichever one you
&gt; prefer.

  But I see no evidence that is true from a practitioner&#39;s point of view.


What I find lacking are practical examples and explanations on how to combine JAX-RS and Guice annotations. For instance:

* I believe I cannot use constructor injection with any resource as Jersey wants to control this
* I&#39;m uncertain whether I can combine @Inject with @PathParam, @QueryParam, et al.
* How to use injection in a MessageBodyWriter implementation

Does anyone have examples, preferably with source, of non-trivial application which combines Jersey and Guice without sacrificing one or the other in the process? I&#39;m keeping on this road regardless, but the bits and pieces on the Jersey and Guice lists makes me think I&#39;m repeating the work of others who came before me.

Typically the main use of the question mark is for the conditional, `x ? &quot;yes&quot; : &quot;no&quot;`.

But I have seen another use for it but can&#39;t find an explanation of this use of the `?` operator, for example.

In fact, if I try to execute this code, python gives me a sorted JSON string! 

For example:

I&#39;ve been trying unsuccessfully to enable gzip HTTP compression on my Windows Azure hosted WCF Restful service which returns JSON only from GET and POST requests. 

I have tried so many things that I would have a hard time listing all of them, and I now realise I have been working with conflicting information (regarding old version of azure etc) so think it best to start with a clean slate!

I am working with Visual Studio 2008, using the February 2010 tools for Visual Studio.

So, according to the following [link][1]..

I have read somewhere that, with the latest tools, you can choose which version of Azure OS you want to use when you publish ... but I don&#39;t know if that&#39;s true, and if it is, I can&#39;t find where to choose. Could I be using a pre-http enabled version?

I&#39;ve also tried blowery http compression module, but no results. 

Does any one have any up-to-date advice on how to achieve this? i.e. advice that relates to the current version of the Azure OS.

&lt;b&gt;Update:&lt;/b&gt; I edited the above code to fix a type in the web.config snippet.

&lt;b&gt;Update 2:&lt;/b&gt; Testing the responses using the whatsmyip URL shown in the answer below is showing that my JSON responses from my service.svc are being returned without any compression, but static HTML pages &lt;b&gt;ARE&lt;/b&gt; being returned with gzip compression. Any advice on how to get the JSON responses to compress will be gratefully received!

&lt;b&gt;Update 3:&lt;/b&gt; Tried a JSON response larger than 256KB to see if the problem was due to the JSON response being smaller than this as mentioned in comments below. Unfortunately the response is still un-compressed.

How to enable gzip HTTP compression on Windows Azure dynamic content

In one of my controller actions I am returning a very large `JsonResult` to fill a grid.

I am getting the following `InvalidOperationException` exception:

**Error during serialization or deserialization using the JSON JavaScriptSerializer. The length of the string exceeds the value set on the maxJsonLength property.**

Setting the `maxJsonLength` property in the `web.config` to a higher value unfortunately does not show any effect.

In my research I came across [this][1] blog post where writing an own `ActionResult` (e.g. `LargeJsonResult : JsonResult`) is recommended to bypass this behaviour.

Is this then the only solution?&lt;br&gt;
Is this a bug in ASP.NET MVC?&lt;br&gt;
Am I missing something?

Any help would be most appreciated.

MaxJsonLength exception in ASP.NET MVC during JavaScriptSerializer

I need a really, really fast method of checking if a string is JSON or not. I feel like this is not the best way:
