The &lt;kbd&gt;Option&lt;/kbd&gt; key (the Mac name for the Alt key) by default has other uses. Press &lt;kbd&gt;Command&lt;/kbd&gt;+&lt;kbd&gt;O&lt;/kbd&gt; to open the list of profiles, select Default (I assume that is the profile you are using), and click &quot;Edit Profiles...&quot;. In the resulting window, click on the &quot;Keys&quot; tab, and select &quot;+Esc&quot; for one or both option keys. This should cause iTerm to treat the Option key the way you are accustomed.

Alternatively, you can simply use the &lt;kbd&gt;Escape&lt;/kbd&gt; key instead.

List all files in a homebrew package

So I installed the beta of JDK 8 a while ago to look at some of the examples. I thought for sure by now, it&#39;s easy to change between versions. 

Doing some Play development with IntelliJ. For some reason, IntelliJ is compiling with 8 even though:

* I have the compiler set in Preferences to use 1.6
* Supposedly it&#39;s using SBT through external build, but sbt from the command line works
* JAVA_HOME is pointing to JDK 6.

If I go to the Java Preferences page, it does show 8 installed, but there is no option to uninstall it and it doesn&#39;t see any of the other versions.

When I do `which java`, it tells me `/usr/bin/java` and I do `/usr/bin/java -version` and it returns 1.6.

Note: with a  little fiddling, you can use IntelliJ and JDK7, see [here][1].

I navigate to folder location an use: 

    python -m SimpleHTTPServer

But this gives me error: 

    socket.error: [Errno 48] Address already in use

I had previously open a connection using the same command 
for a different website in a different location in my machine.

I have a **text file containing a specific date and time.** 
I want to be able to **run a script at the time specified in that file.**
How would you achieve that?
Create another script that runs in background (sort of a deamon) and checks every second if the current time is matching the time in the file?
Is there another way?
The machine is a **linux** server , Debian wheezy.

I am running Ubuntu on computer 1 and computer 2. I compiled a C++ program on computer 1, and I can execute it from the terminal using `./program_name`. It runs fine.

An example is the `-z` in this one. I know how to use it, but I don&#39;t know where it was derived from.

I could map the `new_file` command to &lt;kbd&gt;CTRL&lt;/kbd&gt;+&lt;kbd&gt;T&lt;/kbd&gt;, but is it possible to disable the command completely via user keymap file. My search suggested adding this to user keymap.

Also &lt;kbd&gt;ctrl&lt;/kbd&gt;+&lt;kbd&gt;alt&lt;/kbd&gt;+&lt;kbd&gt;-&lt;/kbd&gt; comments the current selection according to the current file format(php, twig, html, ...)

Is it possible to select text vertically/in a column in PyCharm? You can do it in Visual Studio and Notepad++ by holding down alt+arrow keys.

The documentation describes how to do it with the mouse, but there&#39;s no mention of keyboard options.

I needed to reformat my computer and now I&#39;m having trouble copying the settings/profiles over.

I copied the files in `~/Library/Application\ Support/iTerm/`

I also copied `~/Library/Preferences/com.googlecode.iterm2.plist` but it keeps giving me this error:

    Failed to load preferences from custom directory. Falling back to local copy.
    
    Missing or malformed file at &quot;/
    com.googlecode.iterm2.plist&quot;

I also tried saving the profile in a directory so I could send it but it doesn&#39;t work. 

Here&#39;s the location:

How can I scroll up more on iterm2 to get full output? At times, for example if I am doing unit tests, the errors are so large than I need to keep scrolling up to which I cannot scroll up anymore but the output continues further up beyond the top of the scroll. How can I access that? I tried page up more but not getting me there.
