I found this solution:

    NotificationManager mNotificationManager = (NotificationManager) getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);
            mNotificationManager.setInterruptionFilter(NotificationManager.INTERRUPTION_FILTER_NONE);

It requires:

    &lt;uses-permission android:name=&quot;android.permission.ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY&quot; /&gt;

Which as far as I can tell does not pop up a request dialog when doing requestPermissions(). It has to be granted through the settings menu Settings -&gt; Sound &amp; Notifcation -&gt; Do Not Disturb Access.

This is on SDK 23 Marshmallow.

Just improving the answer from Jordan Parsons.
To set the priority you need a permission that can only be obtained by asking the user opening an Activity.
An activity will be prompted asking if you want to enable the permission for Do Not Disturb to you application.

This Activity can be opened this way:

     NotificationManager mNotificationManager = (NotificationManager) getActivity().getSystemService(Context.NOTIFICATION_SERVICE);

     if (!mNotificationManager.isNotificationPolicyAccessGranted()) {

After granting this permission, this setting can be changed.

For those struggling with LG G4, there is a workaround. 

LG didn&#39;t setup the settings option to grant

    permission.ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY 

Therefore it crashes when it receives

    ACTION_NOTIFICATION_POLICY_ACCESS_SETTINGS 

However, LG did setup the option to grant 

    permission.BIND_NOTIFICATION_LISTENER_SERVICE

And once this permission is granted, so is
 

    permission.ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY 

(at least on LG G4). This option is under Settings-&gt;General-&gt;Security-&gt;Notification access. For the user to be able to grant this permission, your app needs to request for it. This is done by declaring your service, assuming you have one for your app, as follows in the manifest:

So, I was having an issue earlier today where my client, written in `node`, was barfing because the server I was connecting to used self signed certs. So, I went and added the option `rejectUnauthorized: false` to my `tls.connect` command like any unwitting developer would do.

My question is now, what the hell does this mean for me? Is my TLS connection just a vanilla TCP connection that can also possibly be a TLS connection? Is writing this as a TLS stream totally useless?

More importantly, that server, you know the one with the self-signed certs? Is my stream between here and there actually encrypted?

How to change color of hamburger icon in material design navigation drawer

I&#39;m currently trying to adapt my application to the new permissions model of Android M.

I&#39;m collecting all the permissions I require, then run

    Log.i(&quot;Permissions&quot;, &quot;Requesting permissions: &quot; + permissions);
    requestPermissions(requiredPermissions.toArray(new String[requiredPermissions.size()]), requestCodeForPermissions);

requiredPermissions holds the permissions I need like `android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE`.

That routine is definitely executed as I have the Log line in the logcat:

    08-07 12:52:46.469: I/Permissions(1674): Requesting permissions: android.permission.RECEIVE_BOOT_COMPLETED; android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE

But the permissions dialog never shows, let alone is onRequestPermissionsResult() called.

What am I doing wrong? Based on some tutorials I found I&#39;m not missing anything.
I only have the emulator for testing, no physical device. This is the about screen from settings:

It might be worth mentioning something else: If I try to open the overview of installed apps from the home screen I only get `launcher3 has exited`. I&#39;m not sure if that might be related.

Does anybody have an idea why it&#39;s not showing?

Android M permission dialog not showing

Well, I have a RecyclerView with an adapter and everything works great. The items in the ArrayList dataset are being updated periodically. So the items and their elements as well as their position in the list change. This is achieved by simple sorting and manually calling these methods, whenever things happen:

    // swapping two items
    Collections.swap(items, i, j);
    itemsAdapter.notifyItemMoved(i, j);

    // adding a new one
    itemAdapter.notifyItemInserted(items.size());

    // when updating valus
    itemAdapter.notifyItemChanged(i);

The latter of which, is the cause of my misery. Every time an item is updated, a little &quot;blink&quot; animation is triggered. 

I found a couple of solutions for this:

    // disabling all animations
    recyclerView.getItemAnimator().setSupportsChangeAnimations(false);

    // or

    // setting the animation duration to zero,
    recyclerView.getItemAnimator().setChangeDuration(0);


But both of these kill the animations when items move (being swapped). I just want to override the one animation and keep all of this magic. Is there a way of doing this? And if it&#39;s overriding ItemAnimator, does anyone have a simple example?

I am trying to let users select a profile picture from gallery. My issue is that some pictures come as rotated to the right.

I start the image picker like so:

When it comes to the M Developer Preview runtime permissions, according to [Google][1]:

1. If you have never asked for a certain permission before, just ask for it

2. If you asked before, and the user said &quot;no&quot;, and the user then tries doing something that needs the rejected permission, you should prompt the user to explain why you need the permission, before you go on to request the permission again

3. If you asked a couple of times before, and the user has said &quot;no, and stop asking&quot; (via the checkbox on the runtime permission dialog), you should just stop bothering (e.g., disable the UI that requires the permission)

However, we only have one method, `shouldShowRequestPermissionRationale()`, returning a `boolean`, and we have three states. We need a way to distinguish the never-asked state from the stop-asking state, as we get `false` from `shouldShowRequestPermissionRationale()` for both.

For permissions being requested on first run of the app, this is not a big problem. There are plenty of recipes for determining that this is probably the first run of your app (e.g., `boolean` value in `SharedPreferences`), and so you assume that if it&#39;s the first run of your app, you&#39;re in the never-asked state.

However, part of the vision of runtime permissions is that you might not ask for all of them up front. Permissions tied to fringe features you might only ask for later on, when the user taps on something that requires that permission. Here, the app may have been run many times, for months, before we all of a sudden need to request another permission.

In those cases, are we supposed to track whether or not we asked for the permission ourselves? Or is there something in the Android M API that I am missing that tells us whether we asked before or not?
