I need to be able to invoke arbitrary C# functions from C++. http://www.infoq.com/articles/in-process-java-net-integration suggests using ICLRRuntimeHost::ExecuteInDefaultAppDomain() but this only allows me to invoke methods having this format: `int method(string arg)`

I am trying to use the OpcRcw.da.dll.  If I interop this dll inside a test console project everything works, but if I build dll project to do my interop gymnastic and ref my library into my console project I am getting this error:

Anyone can share a working example on how to call a simple C# library (actually its WPF) from python code? (I have tried using IronPython and had too much trouble with unsupported  CPython library my python code is using so I thought of trying the other way around and calling my C# code from Python).

Calling a C# library from python

I have found [this][1] similar question regarding Android, but I am using plain Java with Maven as build tool. I think it is better to post a new question.

I have created a Kotlin class to which I am trying to refer from Java class as `MyKotlinClass.class`. The Maven build fails, whereas compilation in IntelliJ Idea works fine. I have already added Kotlin plugin to maven:

However that does not help:

The line/column exactly refers to symbol `MyKotlinClass.class`. It will fail even when using like this:

I am trying to use a Java API given as a .jar file in my C# .net application.  I don&#39;t know much Java, but this .jar file says &quot;no main-class manifest attribute&quot; when I try to run it so this means its a library?  This Java API also comes with a .java file which shows how to use the library but I cannot see the code inside the .jar.

I&#39;m currently trying to write data from an array of objects to a range in Excel using the following code, where `objData` is just an array of strings:

This very nearly works, the problem being that the range gets filled but every cell gets the value of the first item in the `objData`.

The inverse works, i.e.

    private object m = System.Type.Missing;
    object[] objData = new object[x,y]

    Range rn_Temp;
    rn_Temp = (Range)XlApp.get_Range(RangeName, m);
    rn_Temp = rn_Temp.get_Resize(objData.GetUpperBound(), 1);
    objData = (object[])rn_Temp.value2;

would return an array containing all of the values from the worksheet, so I&#39;m not sure why reading and assignment work differently.

Has anyone ever done this successfully? I&#39;m currently writing the array cell by cell, but it needs to cope with lots (&gt;50,000) of rows and this is therefore very time consuming.


Write Array to Excel Range

I want to extend a large C project with some new functionality, but I really want to write it in Python.  Basically, I want to call Python code from C code.  However, Python-&gt;C wrappers like SWIG allow for the OPPOSITE, that is writing C modules and calling C from Python.

I&#39;m considering an approach involving IPC or RPC (I don&#39;t mind having multiple processes); that is, having my pure-Python component run in a separate process (on the same machine) and having my C project communicate with it by writing/reading from a socket (or unix pipe).  my python component can read/write to socket to communicate.  Is that a reasonable approach?  Is there something better?  Like some special RPC mechanism?

I use GIT on a Mac. Enough said. I have the tools, I have the experience. And I want to continue to use it. No wars here...

The problem is always with interoperability. Most people use SVN, which is great for me. Git SVN works out of the box, and is a no frills solution. People can continue happily use SVN and I don&#39;t lose my workflow and neither my tools.

Now... Some guys come along with Mercurial. Fine for them: they have their reasons. But I can&#39;t find any GIT HG out-of-the-box. I don&#39;t want to switch to HG, but I still need to interoperate with their repository.

Any of you guys know a simple solution for this?

I&#39;m using the Excel interop in C# (`ApplicationClass`) and have placed the following code in my finally clause:

Although this kind of works, the `Excel.exe` process is still in the background even after I close Excel. It is only released once my application is manually closed.

What am I doing wrong, or is there an alternative to ensure interop objects are properly disposed of?

It seems to be that a `boolean` takes 4 bytes of storage. Ideally a `boolean`  would only take one bit (`false` or `true`, `0` or `1`, etc..).

What is happening here? Is the `boolean` type really so inefficient?

I&#39;m working on an application which walks through every file in some directories and does some actions with those files. Among others, I must retrieve the file size and the date when this file was modified.

Some file full names (directory + file name) being too long, I couldn&#39;t use .NET Framework `FileInfo`, which is limited to `MAX_PATH` (260 characters). Many web sources advised to use native Win32 functions through P/Invoke to access the files whose names are too long.

Currently, the exactly same problem seems to arise with Win32 functions. For example, `GetFileAttributesEx` (kernel32.dll) fails with Win32 error 3 ERROR_PATH_NOT_FOUND for the path of 270 bytes.

The very same file can successfully be opened from Notepad2 and successfully displayed with Windows Explorer (but Visual Studio 2010 for example fails to open it because of the 259 characters limit&#185;).

What can I do to be able to access a file when the file path is 270 characters long?

Notes:

- Removing or ignoring files with the file path length longer than 259 characters is not a solution.

- I&#39;m looking for Unicode-compatible solutions only.

- The application will run under Windows 2008/Vista or later with .NET Framework 4 installed.

I am playing around with F# and C#, and would like to call F# code from C#.  

I managed to get it to work the other way around in Visual Studio by having two projects in the same solution, and adding a reference of the C# code to the F# project.  After doing this, I could call C# code and even step through it while debugging.

What I am trying to do is F# code FROM C# instead of C# code from F#.  I added a reference to the F# project to the C# project, but it isn&#39;t working the way it did before.  I would like to know if this is possible without doing it manually.

I&#39;m currently writing about dynamic typing, and I&#39;m giving an example of Excel interop. I&#39;ve hardly done any Office interop before, and it shows. It&#39;s running fine on developer machine but when I try to deploy it on server I&#39;m getting an error:

How to use Microsoft.Office.Interop.Excel on a machine without installed MS Office?

I am getting &quot;HRESULT: 0x800A03EC&quot; error when running Excel add-in with following code:

This is a question that&#39;s been bothering me for a while. I&#39;ve done my homework and checked stackoverflow and found at least these two topics about my question:
[Git for Mercurial like git-svn][1] and
[Git interoperability with a Mercurial repository][2]

I&#39;ve done some serious googling to solve this issue, but so far with no luck. I&#39;ve also read the [Git Internals][3] book, and the [Mercurial Definitive Behind the Scenes][4] to try to figure this out. I&#39;m still a bit puzzled why I haven&#39;t been able to find any suitable git-hg type of a tool. 

From my perspective git-svn is one of the main features, why I&#39;ve chosen to use git over mercurial also at work. It allows me to use a workflow I like, and nobody else needs to bother, if they don&#39;t care. I just don&#39;t see the point in using the intermediate hg repo to convert back and forth, as suggested in one of the chains. 

So anyway, from what I&#39;ve read hg and git seem very similar in conceptual design. There are [differences under the hood][5], but none of those should prevent creating a git client for hg. As it seems to me, remote tracking branches and octopus merges make git even more powerful than hg is. 

So, the real question, is there any real reason why git-hg does not exist (or at least is very hard to find)? 
Is there some animosity from git users (and developers) towards their hg counterparts that has caused the lack of the git-hg tool?
Do any of you have any plans to develop something like this, and go public with it? I could volunteer (although with very feeble C-skills) to participate to get this done. I just don&#39;t possess the full knowledge to start this up myself.

Could this be the tool to end all DVCS wars for good?

I was wondering what I could do to improve the performance of Excel automation, as it can be quite slow if you have a lot going on in the worksheet...

Here&#39;s a few I found myself:

  - `ExcelApp.ScreenUpdating = false` -- turn off the redrawing of the screen

  - `ExcelApp.Calculation = Excel.XlCalculation.xlCalculationManual` -- turning off the calculation engine so Excel doesn&#39;t automatically recalculate when a cell value changes (turn it back on after you&#39;re done)

  - Reduce calls to `Worksheet.Cells.Item(row, col)` and `Worksheet.Range` -- I had to poll hundreds of cells to find the cell I needed. Implementing some caching of cell locations, reduced the execution time from ~40 to ~5 seconds.

What kind of interop calls take a heavy toll on performance and should be avoided? What else can you do to avoid unnecessary processing being done?

Excel Interop - Efficiency and performance

I need some clarification. I have a Reportwriter dll that uses Crystal Reports. It is written in VB6. I have to add this dll to my asp.net project, where it creates an interop dll.

To my understanding, the interop dll is there as an intermediary so that my .net code can speak to the Reportwriter dll.

So do I register the interop dll or do I register the original dll?

I am writing C++ code similar to the following and try to register a C++ class function as the callback function:

    class A {
      public:
       A();
       ~A();
       int e(int *k, int *j);
    };

    A::A()
    {
       register_with_library(e)
    }
    
    int
    A::e(int *k, int *e)
    {
      return 0;
    }
    
    A::~A() 
    {
    
    }

The compiler throws following error:

    In constructor &#39;A::A()&#39;,
    error:
     argument of type ‘int (A::)(int*, int*)’ does not match ‘int (*)(int*, int*)’.

My questions:

1. First of all is it possible to register a C++ class member function like I am trying to do and if so how?
(I read 32.8 at [http://www.parashift.com/c++-faq-lite/mixing-c-and-cpp.html][1]. But in my opinion it does not solve the problem)
2. Is there a alternate/better way to tackle this?
